Czech MoD says a conference on defence readiness stressed that national defence is not only an army task, but a whole society responsibility.
The discussion centers on civil defence, resilience, crisis behavior, information handling, and institutional cooperation.
Dutch Defence says the armed forces grew by about 5,600 personnel last year, including career soldiers, reservists, and civilian staff. The ministry says 2025 defence spending reached about €26B, meeting NATO’s 2% GDP benchmark.
Russia’s MoD says it is conducting nuclear-force exercises from May 19th to 21st on preparation and employment of nuclear forces “under conditions of threat of aggression.” The drills involve 64,000+ personnel, 7,800+ equipment units, Strategic Rocket Forces, the Northern and Pacific Fleets, and Long Range Aviation.
Finnish Defence Forces say the northern part of NATO’s Ramstein Flag 26 live fly exercise will take place in Finland, Sweden, Norway, and Denmark from June 8th to 19th of 2026. The wider exercise spans from Finland to Spain.
UK MOD says an RAF Rivet Joint surveillance aircraft was dangerously intercepted by Russian jets over the Black Sea. A Russian Su-35 reportedly triggered emergency systems, including disabling autopilot, while a Su-27 made six passes, one as close as 6 meters.

Estonia says Poland intends to join Baltic Air Policing this year by deploying fighter jets to Ämari Air Base, strengthening NATO eastern flank air defense after recent regional airspace concerns.

Latvia’s National Armed Forces said an airspace threat was declared in eastern districts after at least one UAV was confirmed in Latvian airspace. NATO Baltic Air Policing fighters were activated, and additional air defense units were sent toward the eastern border.

The UK says its new Borealis space awareness system is operational six months ahead of schedule. The system is intended to improve tracking of space objects, including debris and adversary satellites, to help protect UK space assets.
Poland hosted the Regional IAMD Coalitions Conference in Warsaw on May 21st to 22nd, focused on integrated air and missile defence. The event brought together NATO air and missile defence personnel, defence sector representatives, and academic experts.
