While Russia overall is suffering huge losses of soldiers, the mortality rate differs significantly across the regions, with a 30 times higher mortality rate as a percentage of the population in some eastern regions compared to Moscow.

International Court to Open War Crimes Cases Against Russia, Officials Say:​

The International Criminal Court intends to open two war crimes cases tied to the Russian invasion of Ukraine and will seek arrest warrants for several people, according to current and former officials with knowledge of the decision who were not authorized to speak publicly.

The cases represent the first international charges to be brought forward since the start of the conflict and come after months of work by special investigation teams. They allege that Russia abducted Ukrainian children and teenagers and sent them to Russian re-education camps, and that the Kremlin deliberately targeted civilian infrastructure.

Internal Russian rift widens Bakhmut:
Ukrainian servicemen said on social media video they are holding positions in war-battered Bakhmut waiting for Russians to “shoot each other" as the war of words between the Russian Defense Ministry and a Russian mercenary leader intensifies, a think tank reports.

The assessment from the Institute for the Study of War said Russian military leadership may be allowing the mercenary Wagner Group to take high casualties in Bakhmut to erode its leader’s leverage while preserving Russian army troops.

Russia suggests renewing Black Sea grain deal for shorter term:​

GENEVA, March 13 (Reuters) - Moscow is suggesting to renew a deal allowing the safe export of grain from Ukraine's Black Sea ports but only for a period of 60 days, half the term of the previous renewal, Russian Deputy Foreign Minister Sergei Vershinin said on Monday.
Vershinin's statement came after talks with U.N. officials in Geneva.
The Black Sea grain initiative, brokered between Russia and Ukraine by the United Nations and Turkey last July, aimed to prevent a global food crisis by allowing Ukrainian grain blockaded by Russia's invasion to be safely exported from three Ukrainian ports.

Kyiv claims over 1,000 Russians died in Bakhmut in the last week:​

Bakhmut remains the hot spot in the war between Ukraine and Russia — the head of Ukraine's armed forces described the situation in the city as "difficult," although Ukraine's President Volodymyr Zelenskyy said intense fighting there is taking a big toll on Russia's forces.

Zelenskyy said Sunday evening that since March 6, Ukraine's forces had "managed to eliminate more than 1,100 enemy soldiers."

The commander of Ukraine's ground forces Colonel-General Oleksandr Syrskyi said Monday that "Wagner's assault units are advancing from several directions, trying to break through the defenses of our troops and advance to the central districts of the city," according to the latest post on the Military Media Centre, translated by NBC News.
