Britain has delivered long-range 'Storm Shadow' cruise missiles to Ukraine ahead of expected counteroffensive
The Storm Shadow is a long-range cruise missile with stealth capabilities, jointly developed by the UK and France, which is typically launched from the air. With a firing range in excess of 250km, or 155 miles, it is just short of the 185-mile range capability of the US-made surface-to-surface Army Tactical Missile Systems, or ATACMS, that Ukraine has long asked for.
According to MBDA Missile Systems, the European company which manufactures the missile, the Storm Shadow is a "deep strike weapon" capable of "being operated day and night in all weathers," that features an advanced navigation system to ensure accuracy.
"After launch, the weapon descends to terrain hugging altitude to avoid detection," MBDA's website states. "On approaching the target, its onboard infrared seeker matches the target image with the stored picture to ensure a precision strike and minimal collateral damage."

A 250 (yellow) to 300 (blue) km radius applied from Odesa, Kherson, Orikhiv and Kramatorsk gives a rough indication of the reach of Storm Shadow missiles (export version), based on current frontlines. All sovereign Ukrainian territory can be reached with 300km range.

So far, all the claims of a Ukrainian offensive are coming from the Russian side. ZSU, being properly cagey and close-mouthed, will admit only to local operations in and around Bakhmut.

The Ukrainian Army has launched a local counteroffensive in Bakhmut. The Ukrainian forces have broken through in the direction of Berkhovka & Yagodnoye. They are also pushing toward Soledad & have retaken the Industrial College in S-W Bakhmut Russians are panicking

US Secretary of State Anthony Blinken commented on London's decision to supply Ukraine with long-range Storm Shadow cruise missiles.
"The question is whether all this meets the needs of Ukraine? We are sure that it is so," said Blinken.
