#UPDATE Ukraine's army reports several explosions in Kyiv and other parts of the country early Thursday morning, urging people to stay in bomb shelters.

"According to preliminary information, the fall of debris was recorded in the Darnytskyi district of the capital. Data on victims and destruction are currently being verified," Serhii Popko, head of Kyiv's civil and military administration, wrote on Telegram, noting that anti-aircraft defences are working

This morning’s strikes on Kyiv are the ninth in a series of recent raids by Russia that are “unprecedented in their power, intensity and variety,” the Kyiv City Regional City Administration (KMBA) wrote a short while ago on Telegram. Air raid alerts are still in place for Kyiv. “This time the attack was carried out by strategic bombers Tu-95MS, Tu-160 from the Caspian region, probably by cruise missiles of the X-101/555 type. After launching the rockets, the enemy deployed its reconnaissance UAVs over the capital,” the KMBA wrote. A fire broke out at a business in the city’s Darnytskyi district as a result of falling debris, and an explosion was recorded in the Desnyansky district, according to Kyiv’s mayor, Vitali Klitschko.

Russia arrests hypersonic missile engineers​


These arrests were made public in an open letter from the staff of RAS Institute of Theoretical and Applied Mechanics, published on May 16.

According to the letter, Valery Zvegintsev, head of the aerodynamics lab of at the institute, has been arrested on charges of high treason.

"The past year has seen the arrest of three prominent aerodynamics scientists at our institute – Anatoly Maslov, Alexander Shiplyuk, and Valery Zvegintsev – on suspicion of committing a crime under the graves article the Criminal Code – high treason," the letter reads.

⚡ CNN: US signals to allies that it won’t block them from exporting F-16 jets to Ukraine.

Sources familiar with the matter told CNN that the Biden administration has conveyed to European allies its willingness to permit them to export F-16 fighter jets to Ukraine.

The move comes in response to mounting pressure from Congress members and allies urging the White House to assist Ukraine in acquiring the aircraft as Russian aerial attacks intensify.
