Lukashenka is evidently feeling better since he is traveling to Moscow on the 24th to "discuss issues that have not yet been resolved in our relations" (confirmed by the Kremlin; source: https://ria.ru/20230522/lukashenko-1873415253.html). Immediately after this announcement we get word that Roman Protasevich has been pardoned. If the name doesn't ring a bell - that's the Belarussian dissident famously arrested on Luka's orders in May 2021 when the Belarussians forced a Vilnius-bound Ryanair flight to divert to Minsk - in what was widely regarded as an act of aircraft piracy.

I'm gonna say the timing here is not coincidental, and Luka is sending a message to Moscow.

Russian President Vladimir Putin told an audience Tuesday that Russia was going through “difficult times” as its invasion of Ukraine continues, but said national pride was growing.
“Yes, Russia is going through difficult times now; things have never been easy, but, still, today we are seeing a moment of our common consolidation, with our national pride being sharpened,” Putin told an awards ceremony Tuesday, according to comments reported by state news agency Tass.

Elsewhere, the Kremlin said Wednesday that it’s premature to talk about a peaceful settlement of the conflict in Ukraine, with Putin’s Press Secretary Dmitry Peskov saying the preconditions for an end to the conflict did not yet exist.
When asked by reporters which peace proposals were closest to Russia’s position, Peskov said:
“It is premature to talk about this as long as there are no prerequisites for a peaceful settlement. The special military operation continues,” as Russia calls its unprovoked invasion of its neighbor.
