I seriously fail to understand why no one is posting or discussing this:

The article states that Russia "lost" the site, but photos and satellite imagery indicate it is merely damaged, not totally destroyed. Also, both Russia and the US rely far more on satellite-based launch detection systems than DEW systems. DEWs primarily serve as confirmation of what satellite systems. While it is of interest, the article overstates its strategic importance as well as the damage assessment.

Well that's scary. Because if their satellites malfunction and give a false attack warning which has happened before... they won't be able to confirm it and might have to assume the attack is real and launch...

Few inportant words from the article

He was sceptical about Russian threats to use nuclear weapons, saying: “The Americans have told the Russians that if you explode a nuke, even if it doesn’t kill anybody, we will hit all your targets [positions] in Ukraine with conventional weapons, we’ll destroy all of them.

“I think that’s a credible threat. Also, the Chinese and the Indians have read Russia the riot act. And it’s no child’s play because if that taboo were also to be breached, like the taboo of not changing borders by force, China knows that Japan and Korea would go nuclear, and presumably they don’t want that.”[/URL]

No, the timing wouldn't allow for that. Satellite warning system gives a false launch detection, events get put into motion that take time to implement. By the time we get to the President issuing launch orders, the DEW systems would report no inbound missiles on their screens, putting a halt to the launch process. That's what they're there for.

Also…assuming that the Voronezh-DM has been destroyed…and from the pictures it really seems minor damage as the structures are made of a steel core which protects the system and covered by a light weight material.

The early warning system in Russia as in the US is extremely redundant.

I don’t see any impact over the Russian deterrent or their ability to see or not to see a nuclear strike (or discriminate a false positive).

The facility we are talking about is the number 10.
Also historically Russia had false positives from their DWS not from the satellites.

Polish Foreign Minister: United States warned Russia it would destroy all its targets in Ukraine if they used nukes.
"Constantly declaring what our own red line is only encourages Moscow to adapt its hostile actions to our ever-changing self-imposed limitations," he added.
"Americans told the Russians that if you detonate a nuclear bomb, even if it doesn't kill anyone, we will hit all your targets and positions in Ukraine with conventional weapons and destroy them all," Sikorsky said.
He also stated that Europe must learn to better "play the escalation game" by keeping Russian dictator Vladimir Putin guessing about its intentions.
Russian dictator Vladimir Putin instructed the Russian General Staff to prepare for exercises involving non-strategic nuclear weapons on May 6. The exercises, set to take place "in the near future," will involve Russian aviation and navy.
Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov said the upcoming exercises are in response to Western statements about their readiness to send troops to Ukraine. Andriy Yusov, a representative of the Ukrainian Main Intelligence Directorate (HUR), stated that Ukrainian intelligence is gathering information about the planned exercises in Russia.

The US says Russia launched a satellite last week which it believes may be capable of attacking other such probes.
It was on the "same orbit" as a US government satellite, he said,

Another attack on the Voronezh-DM early warning radar in Orsk (around 1800 km from Ukraine). This one is not even facing Ukraine, it is directed at Indian ocean. I have no idea what would be the goal besides provoking a nuclear response.

The drone of the General Directorate of Intelligence set a new record and flew ≈1,800 km, attacking an over-the-horizon radar in the Orenburg Region. Damage to such a radar directly threatens the russian federation not to see the launch of ballistic missiles in its direction in a timely manner. That is, we have already crossed such red lines that we can't even sleep!
