A union representing nearly 150,000 autoworkers launched a strike early Friday morning against the Big 3 U.S. automakers -- General Motors, Ford and Stellantis.

The United Auto Workers, or UAW, and the car manufacturers failed to reach a contract agreement before a deadline set by the union for Thursday at 11:59 p.m. ET. Less than two hours before the deadline, UAW president Shawn Fain announced the plants where union members would strike if a tentative agreement wasn't reached in time. By midnight Friday, that amounted to approximately 12,700 union workers, including ones at GM in Wentzville, Missouri; Stellantis in Toledo, Ohio; and Ford’s Wayne, Michigan plant.

The union is doing what’s called a “stand-up” strike, where not all union members strike at once.

DETROIT, Sept 15 (Reuters) - The United Auto Workers union launched simultaneous strikes at three factories owned by General Motors, Ford and Chrysler parent Stellantis early on Friday, kicking off the most ambitious U.S. industrial labor action in decades.

The walkouts at the "Detroit Three" will halt production of the Ford Bronco, Jeep Wrangler and Chevrolet Colorado pickup truck, along with other popular models.

The walkouts capped weeks of clashes between Fain and Detroit Three executives over union demands for a bigger share of profits generated by combustion trucks, and stronger job security as automakers shift to electric vehicles.

"For the first time in our history we will strike all three of the Big Three," Fain said.

Thats is amazing!!! Im floored that there are 13000 UAW workers left in Detroit. I guess U-haul is tied up with the California exodus.

Insane. Thats just a few more jobs that will disappear and then reappear in right to work states.

How many of you have priced Automobiles recently and thought “I really should be paying 20% , NO! Wait! 40% more!” ?
 
Give a child a loaded gun
 
Being a UA member for several years what is going on is the unions recognize a failing manufacturing model.
Their demanding higher wages to bump what they can get before more jobs go away.
And don’t think those contract negotiators are actually listening to what members are asking for.

The question is not that the auto workers are demanding more.
The autoworkers Union is demanding more. The industry in its current form is shrinking and they will bleed it for all it’s worth till then.

On my farm we always give the children loaded guns. It’s not much fun to shoot without ammunition. Duh!

Hunting, euthanizing and harvesting livestock are the absolute best ways to teach children firearm safety. Nothing says danger like having to skin, clean and quarter everything you shoot. You realized pretty early on that firearms are tools. No better or worse then the man using it.

As far as city folk go, I guessing that letting XBox, GTA and Call of Duty raise you kids is not turning out so great. Suk2b blue 😎
