I know everyone is dunking on these ever-shifting dates, but that's precisely why I think it's important to resist the urge to tune out. This forum knows this, but I feel like saying it to the general public. People need to remember the end of the 'boy who cried wolf' story. It's not over until it's over. Not when some specific day passes without incident.
 
I'm hearing chatter about an attack on the DPR/LPR (possibly that red flag operation 40 min ago) I'm looking for confirmation........................................... There were reports earlier this morning, but the scale was as before this crisis. I.e. not enough to call it casus belli.

From one of the telegram channels:

On Thursday morning, Ukrainian security forces fired four times on the territory of the Lugansk People's Republic, told reporters at the LPR office in the Joint Center for Control and Coordination of the Ceasefire (JCCC).
"The armed formations of Ukraine grossly violated the ceasefire regime, using weapons that, in accordance with the Minsk agreements, must be withdrawn," the mission officer said.
According to him, from 5:30 Moscow time, the Ukrainian military shelled the settlements of Sokolniki, Zolote-5, Veselenkoe and Nizhne Lozovoe controlled by the republic from 120 and 82 mm mortars, grenade launchers and heavy machine guns. Later, it also became known about the attack on the village of Donetsk.

If anything of the scale you've just reported had happened 40 minutes ago, it would be all over telegram by now.
 
Speaking of the war goals for US, Russia is loosing gas market in Europe. Jan was the history high month for LPG import in Europe, much of it coming from US. At the same time it was the lowest month for Gazprom. Further crisis will only worsen this. Good job US, very well executed.

The situation on the line of contact has sharply escalated.
The enemy is attempting to unleash active hostilities. The Ukrainian side continues to violate its obligations to observe the ceasefire. Since the beginning of the current day, Ukrainian militants have violated the ceasefire FOUR times.
In the MARIUPOL direction, the militants of the 36th Marine Brigade were shelling in the direction of the settlement. KOMINTERNOVO and n.p. OCTOBER from grenade launchers of various types and small arms, firing FORTY-TWO shells.
Also, the militants of the 53rd brigade fired at the areas of the settlement with the use of mortars of 120-mm caliber. PETROVSKOE and NOVOLASPA, releasing TWENTY shells.
In order to protect the civilian population, our defenders were forced to return fire to suppress enemy fire weapons.
Information on casualties among the civilian population and damage to civilian infrastructure is being specified.
The facts of violations were promptly brought to the attention of the representatives of the Ukrainian side in the JCCC, in order to take action against the violators and exclude cases of falsification of credentials on violations of the ceasefire regime by Ukrainian militants.
We call on international observers and the OSCE leadership to record another fact of gross violation of the truce by the Ukrainian side, purposefully provoking the resumption of hostilities in Donbas.

It just seems inconceivable to me that Ukraine would use any preemptive move like this on the contested regions.
It just flinging the door wide open for Russia to react to.

There are photos of an artillery hit of a kindergarten. I found the claimed location with a photo on google maps (it's on the Ukrainian side). The building matches the one on the picture, but note that the black line on the ground seems thinner versus the google photo. It could be because the google photo is old and the ground naturally changed over a few years (or even walls were repainted).

After additional research I believe this is indeed the location and it is on Ukrainian territory. Currently some Russian telegrams are contesting this pictures with the following questions: why the hit direction is coming from the north (the borderline is much further north than south) and why windows are not broken if it was a long-range strike. Considering how accurate the hole is it should be something like SPG-9 with ranges much less.

I have no theory of my own, except that I can only verify the location (as I did through my own research). The counter theory that this location is on LPR so far has no proofs.
