The media needs to get their danm facts right. China is in no way a superpower. Makes for good 'word play ons' but furthest thing from the truth. China is a regional power by every definition.
I understand your sentiment they do not as yet have the ability to project military power in every sphere or conduct repeated long range military Air Force presence. Not have they demonstrated the ability to conduct large scale battalion level sea and air troop and equipment deployments.

In fact that that is something that’s always puzzled me about chines military. The supposed threat to retake Taiwan would require more than a dozen beach landing capable battalions. And massive airborne regiments. Where are they?

Alllll that said they are one of the worlds significant economic engines at least to this point. They have large rocket bombardment capabilities, more ships and boats than the Soviets ever had I believe. And at a minimum 100+ operational land based ICBM,s

Just as China probably couldn’t wipe out the US and occupy , the US would be hard pressed to wipe out and occupy china.

That has nothing to deal with being a superpower.

Having nuclear weapons or even a lot of them (nukes) do not make you a superpower. Look no further then Russia.

I would argue that Russia having nukes has enabled them to thumb their nose at Europe and the US at least for now.
As well as survive major sanctions.
That and the ability to inflict serious damage with nuclear weapons to a nations homeland. If that doesn’t qualify as a superpower then we don’t agree on the definition of superpower.
With the spread of nukes and advancement of many nations economies superpower does not mean the same thing it did in the 50’s - 80’s
We’re a superpower supposedly but we could not bring the Taliban to heel.
What does that say about us.

Your right because that doesn't make you a superpower.

A superpower is a nation that can fight anywhere in the world at pretty much anytime and sustain the war on multiple fronts. China certainly not even remotely can do that. Nor Russia.

US still only superpower as we can fight a war anytime anywhere in the world and sustain in indefinitely on multiple fronts again anywhere in the world.

The U.S. would destroy Taiwan’s chip plants if China invades
I've been saying this for awhile here on the forums. If not the US Taiwan itself will make sure China inherits a useless dead Island. Scorched earth self sabotage policy to ensure China will achieve nothing but a dead peice of rock covered in rubble.

Well, the problem is that the Taiwanese still need to live there, so it won't be as scorched as you think.

Most will have fled the country. The ones left will be their to fight. You know the US and other nations will work very hard to brain drain and evacuate as many people as they can from Taiwan in a very systematic nature. With Korea, Japan, and Guam near by will be easy to control a flow of evacs from Taiwan. Most likly have fled before a major conflict starts.

I can imagine their thought process like many do everyday is "if I can't have it no one can".

It will take China months to prepare for a invasion of Taiwan and get on a war ready footing. They cannot do that without us knowing because of this amazing invention called the satellite. Durring that time we will have likly drained most of the Taiwanese people particularly those with education or knowledge valuable to us like chip manufacturers.

Taiwan mass-producing advanced Hsiung Feng II missile variant

TAIPEI (Taiwan News) — The Hsiung Feng II anti-ship missile currently in mass production is an advanced version that is more sophisticated than its predecessor, which is currently in service, a military source has said.

Its range, mission flexibility, and electronic protective measures (ECM) have all been improved, they said. The new missiles will be loaded onto the five anti-ship Tuo Chiang corvettes, the future anti-ship light frigates, and subsequent ships, per Liberty Times.

Milley: "There's a really an underreported arms race going on in the western #Pacific right now. These countries are arming themselves up & they very much, w/ very few exceptions, want the United States there."
2of2 "That's why the Secretary traveled to the #Philippines . That's why we're looking at access bases and oversight. That's why we're looking at a repository in the western Pacific. It is a design there to be forward deployed in order to deter armed conflict," adds Milley

Sometimes I have a crazy notion that the ChiComs, with the exception of Formosa, might, just might be purely defensive in Nature. Then my elivil and lithium kick in.

Al-Jazeera has twisted the quote a fair bit there if they're referring to her speech at the American Enterprise Institute. They may be referring to something else she said but if so I can't find it, the closest I could find is the AEI speech.
See an article summarising her remarks here:
And see the below PDF for her original remarks in full.

When I begin to doubt the intrinsic nature of Chinese plans I am reminded of their maritime fishing flotillas that enter smaller nations waters and strip them clean. I snap back to reality then.
