China seized Vietnam’s Sand Cay in the South China Sea. Chinese forces occupied the uninhabited island, which had Vietnamese posts and a fishing station, raising the PRC flag - Financial Times
Unofficially with the amount of conflicts and disputes globally you could say we are currently witnessing ww3 . European conflict ,middle east conflict, Asian conflict + different area Asian disputes.I feel with everything going on right now, this isn't a comforting development.
Ngl guys, Im not sure I like the prognosis. We don't have to all start wars at once.
I uh. I am beginning to suspect.. I think that's where we are headed, Mr. Yingyang.Unofficially with the amount of conflicts and disputes globally you could say we are currently witnessing ww3 . European conflict ,middle east conflict, Asian conflict + different area Asian disputes.
Unfortunately the end result of such discussions really won't achieve much in the way of change. Here or anywhere else.I uh. I am beginning to suspect.. I think that's where we are headed, Mr. Yingyang.
At what point do we call it that? I don't think people want to hear it. But it looks like there's about to be a war in pretty much every corner of the globe, so we may in fact be toast. Hopefully nobody nukes us all off the face of the earth.
Just remember guys, bigotry and tribalism are what got us here. This is a global issue because it's a human issue. We did this to ourselves. It's time we face what bigotry and tribalism does to the world. And perhaps it's a problem this forum needs to discuss because we are diverse as it gets and politics-religion-geopolitics ARE intertwined, no matter how much we try to say they are not. You can not attack beliefs without attacking ones identity.
So, that's my 2c. It's a discussion that needs to be had, since we are seeing what not having that discussion has led us to.
Do we have any confirmations?!?! I do not see anything on financial times website.
This is an alarming event if confirmed.
Edit: a bit of old news kind of, seems the report is from Thursday and not being picked up heavily. But looks legit.
This site, by its very nature, attracts people (myself included) who have an interest in nuclear war, whether that be from a survivalist, strategist, political, sensationalist or doomsayer perspective. At what point do we call it that? Symbolic takeovers are very very much still aggression. That is what they do. You saw it with Russia. That's what imperialists do. Take just a little piece, nobody will mind, right? Just for a little bit? No problemo? No outrage? No global news? Maybe a little bigger slice next time.![]()
China seizes disputed reef in the South China Sea
Sandy Cay is just kilometres from the Philippines’ military outpost at Thitu Islandwww.ft.com
NB:
There is so far no sign of a permanent Chinese occupation of Sandy Cay or construction on it. A Philippine maritime security official said on Saturday that the Chinese coastguard had left after unfurling the flag.
Doesn't seem as though they have 'taken' it, just showing that they could take, all 200 square metres, if they wanted to.Symbolic takeovers are very very much still aggression. That is what they do. Being aware that we are sitting on a powder keg in a world where war is increasingly seen as justified, in a world where a terrorist attack can enrage a population enough to start wars killing many more than the terrorists ever could, so quickly that an entire population can be wishing for total destruction of a country within not years not months not days but within minutes. A world where such wars against terrorists provide excellent cover and excuse for imperialists. After all, we invaded Iraq why can Putin not take a little Ukraine? See the problem, and how this is a chain reaction waiting to happen. And looks like we have a serious issue in India and Pakistan that wants to bring in Iran, who the US wants to bomb? All while China takes just a little slice. Just a little nibble. No problem. Isn't theres, but it's OK. They left. Just planted a flag. Just invaded a small little piece. For just a little bit. This site, by its very nature, attracts people (myself included) who have an interest in nuclear war, whether that be from a survivalist, strategist, political, sensationalist or doomsayer perspective.
I don't think that we are closer to being toast than we were a year ago but we, not just on this site, tend to be more keenly aware, and informed, as to what is going on around the world than we were back in the good old days of post-cold war peace dividend.
If things never change, they never change. You can either start speaking against the root causes of war, and try to resolve them amongst people to have a reasonable and respectful conversation instead of disrepect, or you can decide that things will never change so there's no point in trying. Might as well just give up. Too much division guys, sorry, guess it's off to war. Gonna have to take from you now, because you are one of those others. You don't like it? Come on, just a chicken nugget. Gonna punch me over a chicken nugget?Unfortunately the end result of such discussions really won't achieve much in the way of change. Here or anywhere else.
The theory nice though. But theory and practical don't always end up with expected rresults.
