Why is China stockpiling resources?

China is rapidly stockpiling crucial materials in a manner that is beginning to draw "global attention".

Among the materials are stocks of fuel, including crude oil and natural gas, valuable manufacturing metals like copper, iron ore and cobalt, and in particular precious metals like gold, said Newsweek. All this is taking place at a "time when commodities are expensive" and, considering the economic issues it faces, "does not reflect growing consumption", said The Economist.
China has been displaying an "alleged pattern of behaviour" that has "blared red" for the US as it amasses "key resources", said Channel News Asia (CNA). This includes asking its state oil companies to add "nearly 60 million barrels" of crude oil to its reserves and the state-owned agricultural stockpiler Sinograin to increase its grain imports. The most alarming reason why countries tend to build up reserves of valuable. materials is the prospect of war. Conflict means that imports and access to materials become restricted.
China's actions are causing concern. Given its military expansion in recent years and the increasingly heightened tensions with Taiwan, stockpiling exactly what "it would need to survive a protracted conflict."

Regular reminder that China is in a long-term demographic crisis that has potential to escalate in the future and can lead to traditional Chinese internal crisis, which historically have been... bad. It's likely they are aware of this and are stockpiling for it.

I was thinking just this. Their economy is a balloon waiting to pop. Entirely artificially inflated and real economic numbers from their economy have not been seen or produced in decades meaning it is literaly anyone guess what China economy is turly valued at. Likly much much much much less then what they are artificially pumping into their economy.

Imagine America's Great Depression times 100 fold once that ballon pops in China. The CCP is more then ready to kill off half their population if they rise up too. So yea... as you say "bad" to say the very least for Chinas future.

But that's what you get for having a planned economy (communism) very short sighted planning/policy making and artificially pumping up your economy for decades ensuring that you never post losses is only going to come back and bite you in the ass the longer you do it. China's economy needs a Readjustment & reevaluation to what it's actually worth. It's just the Natural Forces, regardless how much China pumps money into their economy eventually it will adjust and when it does it may very well be the end for the CCP.

Just ask the CCP how their one child policy worked out for them and how regardless of the life ending economic crisis they will have to eventually face they now have to face an extreme population shortage in their near future.
