Wild Solar Weather

Just a flare, good thing the northern hemisphere is pointed away from the sun right now ;) The earth's magnetic field will deflect 90% of this and our ozone will take care of the rest.

So...does this mean Australia is going to fry?

And actually, we're about a month away from the Spring Equinox, which everything is balanced.

This happens daily, sorry I do not have access to those satellites and metrics. Our magnetic field is reactive and shifts around with the obliquity and precession of the equinoxes of the earth. If presented with a strong solar wind the field will dissipate and "force away" the energy presented. Here is a little video of how it works:

Magnetic Field

Earth’s magnetic poles are not the same as its geodetic poles, which most people are more familiar with. The locations of Earth’s geodetic poles are determined by the rotational axis our planet spins upon. That axis doesn’t spin evenly, like a globe on your desk. Instead, it wobbles slightly, obliquity. This causes the position of the true north pole to shift slightly over time. Numerous processes on Earth’s surface and within its interior contribute to this wander, but it’s primarily due to the movement of water around Earth.

I suppose I did not answer your question. I am not a Solar expert nor do I have the science and history of previous solar flares, I would invest in this happening in the past unbeknownst to our vigilant eyes always watching the sun.

I know it sounds strange but Im partial to the green ones. Of course the red ones have their own charm, on top of the Blue ones, that when you get down to the bottom of it, tastes like …. Grape. Anyone up for a Nehi?

I remember an undergrad who said, "you might be quarking up the wrong tree but it all has its own charm."
