The U.S. Space Force is funding technology designed to wirelessly recharge satellites while they are already in orbit.

Yank Technologies has received a SpaceWERX contract to develop a wireless power-transfer system for orbital spacecraft.The concept would allow a servicing vehicle to transmit electrical power to another satellite without physically plugging into it - reducing the precise docking and mechanical connections required by conventional charging systems.

If matured, the technology could help extend spacecraft lifetimes and support a future space infrastructure in which satellites are serviced, powered and reused rather than simply replaced.
