@rudemarine Citizen-21 Has been FSB for a long time. I remember back during the Obama-Russia crisis when we went on Defcon 2. Citizen-21 came into the teamspeak, I believe it was at that time. I was young back then, but I remember it like the back of my hand...even though my many accounts on this forum lost due to passwords.

When they were banned to operate there?

Years ago, after the signing of the Minsk accords! They arrested several Americans just wanting to help. The second the Obama and Biden Administration in the US started accusing some of the mercs of being terrorist just for helping Ukraine, even though just a year prior they were highly decorated US service members who left the US military, they all ran home. Some were found with warrants back in the US but they all went to court in Kiev, trying to stay in Ukraine to help but were sent packing. A lot of US mercs were there helping Ukraine in the beginning. Many have even stated as much such in books, such as the highly unlikable Reaper. Reaper said he was this great sniper and then thought he was going to die and decided to call it quits when a Russian sniper had him pinned down.

can a staff member comment, is this the usual sabre rattling from Russia, or is this like cold-war level rhetoric? is this a trust worthy source? hearing this makes me sweat
The Daily Beast is not a great source. But it is true Russia has been raising the rhetoric among the public. It's definitely has gotten my attention.

The Daily Beast skews a little to the left as far as political bias, and their reliability is 50/50. Best to verify anything they say through a second source.

Translation by me - may be a bit clunky, but (hopefully) at least better than auto translate ;)

Chancellor Olaf Scholz expressed his worries about the situation around Ukraine in a telephone call with the Russian president Putin today. A deescalation is urgently needed.

"Chancellor Olaf Scholz spoke with the Russian president Wladimir Putin on telephone today.

President Putin congratulated the chancellor on taking office. Both spoke about the current state of the bilateral relations.

The chancellor and the Russian president also spoke about the increased russian military presence in the vincinity of Ukraine. The chancellor expressed his concerns about the situation and spoke about the urgent need of deescalation.

Additionally they spoke about the current state of implementation of the Minsk Agreements for a peaceful solution to the conflict in eastern Ukraine. The chancellor stressed the need to advance the negotiations in the "Normandy format".

Chancellor Schold and president Putin agreed to continue the exchange."

Russian post by the Mirror: "https://www.mirror.co.uk/news/world-news/vladimir-putin-warns-nato-everyone-25759453" warns of nuclear waste if NATO makes moves they don't like. This is the first actual nuke threat by any country that has nukes. Can DEFCON review if this is credible and shouldn't the level be adjusted accordingly?
The mirror is boulevard press - sensationalist style. In the article it says, referring to Putin:
"He said: “In the event that the clearly aggressive line of our Western colleagues continues, we will take adequate retaliatory military-technical measures, and react toughly to unfriendly steps."
and (emphasis added by me):
Vladimir Putin's media mouthpiece Dmitry Kiselyov warned US-led aggression could lead to a nuclear war and warned NATO 'everyone will be turned into radioactive ash'
So the headline is not correct: It wasn't Putin who spoke about "radioactive ash", but it was Kiselyov - who seems to be some kind of Kremlin's own "boulevard expert", as this is not the first time in this situation that he uses very drastic words.
IMO it would be a different thing if Putin said that or Lavrow, but (also IMO) this is just propaganda, reported in a sensationalist style by a boulevard paper's website.

It’s from a Russian TV mouthpiece that said the same stuff several times. He’s not anything to do with government officials. This is a common theme through him.

Edit: Mirror has the information incorrect as well. Putin didn’t say that.. the Russian TV mouthpiece did.

DEFCON 2 ?
Citizen-21 joined in2017
When did this happen

Some decent news to come out. Hopefully something comes of it:

The next one is not exactly a report, but the source of the first one. It's an IMO pretty interesting analysis with some reports linked in it:
I read it. The whole thing. Some stuff I agree with, some I think he may be reading too much.

But he absolutely nails it when it comes to Russian fear of invasion and NATO's encroachment. Russia will not tolerate that.

Maybe NATO Is getting that idea, which is why they are meeting to discuss Russia's demands.
