Let’s just wait and see

I’ll be honest, if the state of Russian comms is as bad as it’s been rumoured, there’s always the possibility that some units just don’t know about the orders to pull back, if they’ve actually been made.

I've got a really fucked up thought and UNLIKLY scenario...

What if they pulling away from Keiv to either nuke it or drop bio/chem weapons on them?
Possible and I'm sure NATO is well aware of the possibility. I sorta doubt it though, it looks like the bear is going back to it's cave to lick it's wounds. And the rumor is Zelensky agreed to not pursue Crimea or Donbas. Russia will go home saying this was the agenda to being with (which it wasn't) and proclaim a win.

edit - I've already seen Russian shills online saying that Kiev or toppling the government was never the goal. That the military going to Kiev was only a distraction so Russia could secure Donbas

Chemical weapons are hardly absolute with their killing.
Yes if Russia is pulling out it would be a fuck you message and a psychological attack on the people.
If Russia was to use them for strategic reasons rather than psychological reasons
No if they are pulling out it is unlikely they are coming back. Pure psychological.

Still forgetting about deconamation may not be possible for awhile. Making the city inhabitable at least big parts of it for some time. Would be a psychological attack on Ukraine statehood as it's the capital.

I'm willing to entertain the hypothetical, I still think it's pretty unlikely though.

I believe Russia want's to take Kyiv intact.
But the resistance of the defenders is too strong and the fight would destroy the city and take a huge toll of russian soldiers.
So the the only way to take Kyiv by force is by dropping chemical weapons, probably nerve warfare agents which are absorbed through the skin and so bypasses the gas masks.
VX would be suitable, it would also deny Ukraine from retaking Kyiv and detere anyone from acting against Russia.💀

VX lingers and is considered an aerial of denial weapon. While I'm unaware of Russia using this before, Sarin being preferenced, it's nature as an aerial of denial weapon would render Kyiv uninhabitable and force Russia to take up the costs of decontaminating it. Doesn't really fit with wanting to take it with minimal destruction.

If Putin has decided to accept his Pyrrhic victory, it is because his position and support is weaker. I believe that support for him is weaker in the Armed Forces, since they are the ones who die in combat, while the "tsar" must be saying that they are stupid and cowards. But, as Ukraine said, the objective now is to try to take half of Ukraine. So redeploying the troops helps Russia to try that goal.

It's just symbolism, nobody has to live there but the capital was taken, taken away at least - for a longer period of time.
Sarin only works against the unprepared and so the choices for Russia are slim.
Maybe just the announcement to use VX is enough to force an unconditional surrender.

I would point out that absolutely no one should assume Russia is going to actually follow through on anything they say or change their commitments at the drop of a dime. As the US administration constantly makes known, "we will gather intel on what Russia is actually in the process of doing rather than what they are saying". They literally led this invasion all the while stating they had no intentions of invading while then inventing reasons and excuses to do so along the way lmao. A nerve agent attack, a nuke ... a regrouping of forces anything is possible from a country that has just lost close to 15-20 thousand troops.

I think assuming that they're going to use a WMD on these areas they're moving from is just us catastrophizing even something that should be good. In all likelihood, they're pulling troops from those areas in order to refocus on the Donbas rather than anything involving WMDs. Not saying they won't use chemical weapons at all, though.

The possibilities are there thats the main point I wanted to make. Other than that their actions need to be evaluated on ground level verification.
