I think it is smart. NYC is closer than Washington DC in terms of hypersonic missile range from Russia; from Moscow - it is 4666 versus 4860 miles. But you would have to expect both DC and NYC areas would be targets. Nothing like that in the DC areas. They don't care if we die around here. (Sorry, that might sound crude, but it is true.)
And it seems like this was done by NY/NJ Port Authority, if the logo on the bottom right is what I think it is. Like the continued caution at NYC airports, at least someone is using their head in New York for a change. (After COVID spreads mainly from NYC and 1M dead Americans later... but hey, better late than never, I guess)
I watched a program on TV that was about a company that built and installed fallout shelters and the CEO said he wouldn't give names or specific locations but the majority of his business was in the DC area when pressed. It was very interesting. The shelters he built were not like the old civil defense ones from the 50s.

I think you will find very few people on here who believe the US is untouchable.
Yes, I definitely know that, which is why I have been following this site for years.
Overwhelming majority of USA literally considers itself untouchable and could care less.
But worse, I also think there are many in the USA NatSec community that have persuaded themselves otherwise. Too many reckless public statements. Too much war fever.
It is not 1945 with George Patton wanting to fight Russia (and being retired.)
The wild and reckless advocacy for cyberwar, etc., those believing their IW, and who are also growing up during a generation believing itself invincible.
And they want to be able to fight like it is 1941. I completely understand the emotion.
They want to be rolling thunder and wipe out the Russian troops, free Ukraine, and maybe give Moscow something to remember them by.
The idea of massive cyberwar killing untold millions, the idea of thermonuclear warfare, ah... that's just "negative thinking" to some in today's NatSec world. "Them Ruskies is weak."
They consider themselves young and strong, and they believe THEY will survive.
But someone among the rational adults needs to remind them that is an alternate reality.
World War is not a video game.

No point in preparing a population in a major city center, no one will survive in the cities, and especially the capital. If you can afford to pre-evacuate that is pretty much your only plan to survive.
Yes, pre-evacuation is the only option for any high survivability nuke, but of course there also non-nuke threats as well.
I believe the sign was in Parasmus Mall, NJ, which is about 20 miles away. It is possible that some people could survive. It is likely one heck of a long shot. But it is not Manhattan.
Of course, USA isn't preparing a population anywhere, let alone a major city center.
And even though NYC and DC will be destroyed, there is also the national morale issue. You know, the missile could miss. Leaders need to do more than stare as the missile comes down. Fatalism is a bad strategy for leadership in national security. If we have billions to throw away on everything else, we have funds to convince our public they have a chance.
By the way, I know I am probably done for here if nuclear war starts. I am working to get family out of the DC area and moving some out soon. If there is any warning of any kind, I would be gone. I have about 5 or 6 different pre-evacuation plans if possible.

Still waiting for who invaded Russia.
Russia is defending pro-russian people in ukraine.

So does this mean because Russia’s believed it necessary to invade Ukraine the Baltic’s should be expecting a special military operation anytime soon?
I don't know. I don't connected to the government and don't know their plans.

The Soviet Union fell, they Lost. If somehow Russia wants to revisit all that then more power to them.
yes, why not? Russia wants to be powerfull and strong nation.

NATO is a defensive alliance that many past soviet states (Willingly) applied to to join. Why? because evidently for good reason they did not and do not trust Russia as it is led by the likes of putin whos butt hurt his USSR collapsed under its own weight and inefficiencies.
Russia tried to join NATO too. It is not a secret. You are keep talking about "butt hurt". It is western media concept, that makes a false reason of the invasion.

Explain this to me who has nuclear capable intermediate range ballistic missile with in 5O0 miles of virtually every European capital and has had for almost two decades.
If nato is a threat to Russia then the Iskander missiles are every European capital.
not every European capital, just Poland, Baltic States, maybe part of eastern Germany. All those countries have NATO bases with same sort of missiles and outnumbered russian ones.

It is out right false to say “all” wars are defensive.
You Cross the boarder and start attacking with no provocation other than your adversary doesn’t agree or submit to your will is and always will be an aggressive action.
You are saying that any USA invasion is offencive. No one crossed USA borders and started attacking USA land by their military forces.

I’m sorry the country of Ukraine the Baltic’s Poland Romania Czecha and a others rejected Soviet hegemony.
They don’t want Russia. Hegemony either.
But they did and the are still. Russia trying to revist this like some historic injustice is falling on deaf ears.
You keep saying that, you missed the point of russian invasion in Ukraine. Just remove all NATO bases from those countries and they will be in safety.
Russia also wants to live in peace. Wants to trade with other countries, traveling between borders. Please, respect Russia and keep promises given to Russians.

You miss the point this bases are there BECAUSE those nations don’t trust Russia
Or wait a minute maybe I’m confused maybe your right

No never mind we disagree and you can repeat it till when ever.
<getting personal removed>
So the war will continue

Wow there are some pretty large Russian populations in the US should we be expecting a visit.
That is not a reason on invade and seize part of another nation.
Do better be honest you believe Russia should take Odessa thus depriving Ukraine or a black see port.
Pro-Russian people in Odessa are really suffered under Ukraine occupation. Their native language is prohibited. Education is only in Ukrainian language. People are keep tortured and killed by ukrainian nazi. Same situation in whole eastern part of Ukraine. Western media will never told you this.

Let’s talk about Kaliningrad. Were there a lot of Russians there prior or during its existence of a a Prussian nation?
Kaliningrad is a trophy. Also southern sakhalic and Kuril islands. It is a payment for that horrible offensive that took around 26,000,000 of russian lives.

Would you trade Kaliningrad for Odessa and Mariupol?
I'm not a Putin. I haven't been in Kaliningrad and never spoke with people from that city. I don't know, maybe people in Kaliningrad will be happy to joing Germany, who know. Ask them. As for Odessa and Mariupol, I personaly know people from those cities, refuges lives in a next door. Talked to them a lot and they told me all horrible things that ukrainian nazi did.

And yet still an irrelevant reason to invade a sovereign nation

And yet still an irrelevant reason to invade a sovereign nation
that and possible NATO bases near Moscow are fine reason for invasion for russians. You should understand that, because your country invades a sovereign nations with much smaller reasons. And the number of USA invasions are really big. By the way, take a look at China - they are really preparing for a conflict with USA. They keep buildings ships, trying to outnumber USA ships.

Pro-Russian people in Odessa are really suffered under Ukraine occupation.
Odessa is not "occupied" by Ukraine; it is part of Ukraine, just like Texas is a part of the United States even if they don't like it. To my knowledge, Ukrainian citizens are allowed to leave the country if they wish, so no Russians are being held against their will by the Ukrainian government.

Ukraine's borders as they were in 1994 were recognized as valid by the international community, including Russia.

Therefore, it is an irrefutable fact that Crimea, Donetsk, and Luhansk are currently being occupied by Russia, which is violating both international law and a treaty they signed with Ukraine to guarantee their borders.

You can spin it however you wish, and you make up or parrot whatever excuses you wish, but the fact of the matter is Russia is the aggressor nation here. They attacked and invaded a sovereign nation who had not attacked or invaded them. Let me repeat that for those of you in the cheap seats: Ukraine did not attack, invade, or provoke Russia in anyway to warrant the destruction Russia has been inflicting on Ukraine. I don't care about your "but's" or "however's" - Russia is in the wrong. And if you are supporting Russia's actions over the past two months, then you are also wrong, and history will judge you and your country accordingly.

So Nick S are you disagreeing with me not being on board flipping Russian leadership or expanding the goals in Ukraine of only to defend Ukraine
it should be Russians who replace Putin with a more stable leader and not bent on the return of the USSR, as for the goals in Ukraine are working out just fine right now sooner or later Russia will have to stop dig in or leave...

Might check to make sure you don’t live to near a Russia military base. Maybe consider moving while you have time.

This is the mistake Russia apologist are making. This indignation and drive for defense of Ukraine is not rooted in neocon Atlantic forum members.
It’s across the board in the west populations liberal and conservative ( of course not in total) but a majority.

So you make the mistake that you can mold and influence western public opinion by incorrect or shaped claims of history and the dangers of Russian military.
Everyone says Putin is crazy or he’s serious or not going to back down.

The number one rule in fighting or war after training and preparation is this.
To be more unpredictable, ruthless and bat shit crazy to win and end the war as efficiently as possible.
Throat pinched eyes gouged out nuts crushed what ever it takes.

Russia spent six months moving troops and armor to their own boarder. Their own boarder!
In 62 days almost exclusively by air some rail and naval. Nato is quickly bringing Ukraine into land war parity with Russia. Russia ace in the whole is its willingness to bomb civilian targets and whisper threats of nuclear war.
Before it was dont you dare intro Ukraine into nato
Then it was don’t interfere with Russia’s special military operation, or we’ll shoot.
Now it’s you better stop arming Ukraine ..., or we’ll shoot.
It’s a losing hand and you as a Russian citizen need to understand this. If it leads to a nuclear exchange then so be it.
You cannot take actions like this and make threats like you have and not expect to get punched back.

It is exactly in essence the Cuban missile crisis all over.
Ante-up.

That’s what I thought but those red thumbs down confuse me☺️.
Absolutely if Russia’s going to change their gov it must be the Russian people’s choice.
Unfortunately the European Russian boarder IS going to have to be remilitarized north to south and nukes will have to stay in England and probably return to Germany.
Europe better be ready to pony up.
