the report for Sunday October 23, 2022 Hrs of reporting---0800 to 2000. EDT
AT 1023 hrs. the first message came through, it was repeated about 10 minutes later. Single message standard 30 character at 11:22 EDT.
Silence until 13:35 repeating message from 11:22
Started getting active at 16:22 then standard timing every 30 minutes same message from 16:22 to 20:30.

I might have missed a few messages during the day. Like I mentioned the other day I had some "family" issues to care for. My 10 yr. old service K-9 long time friend, and protector died today at noon. He was MORE than a pet. That dog and I went through a lot of hell together from the time he was 2 months old, until around 2019 when I moved from AL to FL. At least his last year or two didn't have to deal with crime or bad people. He suffered for about 3 weeks. He weighed 110 pounds and I couldn't get help to get him to the car and no vet would come to put him out of his misery. I"m a small guy, older and he only weighed about 15 more pounds than I do.
It’s hard I know I’ve been their.

I read the saddest post from a vet once.
He was speaking of having to put dogs down.
All they would do is continually look around the room with a worried look searching for their friend before they went to sleep.
Broke my heart.
Many can’t understand it but it is a serious bond between a dog and it’s family once you create that bond.

Report for Oct 24, 2022 Started listening at 0800 stopped around 1900. I caught 8 messages standard length. 4 of the 8 were repeats. NO monitoring between about 11:30 to well past 1400. Honestly, when that notice came out about the press release, I really thought it was going to be about Trump, so I was very busy finishing off things that I had put aside for the past three weeks doing K9 care. Then, I had to stay out of the house after I started the first process of cleaning up the bio-hazards. I don't mean piss and shit, that's easy. Try cleaning up a biological discharge called coffee emesis. Nasty stuff. There's still more to do, but hopefully the monitoring will be more complete.

Report for Oct 25, 2022 Monitoring started 0800 EDT. Only 8 messages caught, but monitorng was suspended from 16:00 to 18:00, restarted at 18:00 Last message was at 22:20 Several mainsail radio tests, plus global hawks are in the air. (that's something new)

Other thoughts on current situation. You better be ready, and ready NOW NOW NOW. Get ahead of the curve. If lame stream media ever really reports on the situation, the panic and civil unrest will be like nothing most of us have never or ever seen. Get your shit ready, get out of large cities, and once settled, hunker down and lock and load. The bumpy ride is fixing to start. This is no video game--it's very real and will affect all of our lives. No one escapes.

We've had defcon 3 before several times, but this particular one is very different, so it's NOT a knee jerk reaction just because of condition yellow.

A few things to watch for if something is coming down. Huge financial swings with the market. loss of communications, internet problems, scrambled GPS and cell service. If it's possible, disconnect your car battery and turn the ignition in the ON position to discharge capacitors in the modern computers. That's not a guarantee it will save the vehicle, but it does improve chances of the computer's survival in the car. Mostly importantly, use logic, think and pray.

Every once in a while, I do start listening to 8992. Sure, we can never figure out what is actually going on, but after listening for the past 6 years, at least I can give some guidelines. When tensions are higher than normal, or rocket man decides to fire off one of his toys, I do pay a little more attention. Background:: generally every 30 minutes when things are basically "normal" to "slightly elevated," You'll hear the station and the test count of a standard message of 30 characters. You almost NEVER hear main sail even with a test count. So, there's your background patterns in a nutshell. Since Putin made his threat, I did start listening again, and as the days progressed, I listened even more intently. Why??? it's because patterns suddenly changed. At least the good part is that I haven't heard any message orders from main sail, but for this past week, I've heard more main sail test counts this week alone, than I've heard in the past 6 years combined. Now, this morning, I've only heard one, but a fair lady station sent out several orders this morning, at least every 10 minutes for close to an hour's spread of time. IT was the standard 30 count messages, but the difference was that the receiver of the orders was repeated twice--which indicates it's considered an important message. In the past week, I've only caught one message greater than 30 characters, and it was a 56 character message. The other differences is that instead of repeating the standard 30 character message every 30 minutes, the stations are now only saying "standing by for traffic".

I bring this stuff up for a reason. Even in the past when DWS was a #3, the traffic was consistent. This time, it's waaaay out of the norm.

MainSail was online on 8992 a few seconds ago with a short code.

MainSail Foxtrot Echo then a lot of background noise.

They had another mainsail call like 2 minutes ago.

I caught that, but it was very faint. But the transmission with the relay clicks occurred before the 38 character message came out. I'm going to go back and verify if the repeat is the same.

going back and double checking, the 38 character message both times was identical. I've noticed that during these exercises that there will be one character that will be different from the message one before the repeat. That's just a guess, but Im guessing that it means a non valid message and used for the exercise.

The report for Wednesday October 26, 2022 Monitoring started at 08:30 stopped at 2300. I went longer than usual due to conditions and also a 38 character message at 21:22

There were at total of 22 messages that I caught. I did miss one while fixing a sandwich near noon, and I think it was either a 38 count or a 44 count.

First traffic was at 11:05 Last was at 21:52. All messages were 30 character with the exception of the one that I missed, (either a 38 or 44 character) and two 38 character messages at 12:55 and also 21:22

Times of messages 11:05---1130---noon---1234---1255----1400--1418--1434--1448--1545(38 chracter) 1550--1551--1600--1603--1627--1635--1636

At 21:17 I caught very faint message to mainsail. The relay clicks occurred, then 21:22, the second 38 character message that I caught started. rest of the messages were at 2141 and 2152.

the only thing I've caught is somee of the messages DID NOT match the first transmission. There would be 1 character difference somewhere in the code. I"m betting that those messages are related to the exercise. the last 38 character message did match, and after hearing the red box clicks, that's why I decided to monitor longer. There were only two messages that matched during the day===the one at 1550 and 1603 plus at 1625 and 1627.

The report for Thursday Oct 27, 2022 Monitorng started 0800 stopped 21:45.
There were 24 messages, all 30 character except for one 51 character at 20:10 All times eastern daylight time. Ones of note: 0800 mainsail then sudden cancel 0801 from outface transmission faded out. Next was "for shrimpboat" which I'm going to presume was a sub with that name. 0810

Times 0814--1131---1202 1206. Then at 1211 there was conversational transmission in Russian or Ukraanian I just know enough language to catch that 'something sunk" But, it was probably the exercise stuff. But I wondered, because at 1214 th next messsage came out so fast I couldn't even write it down quick enough Then an additional came out but was stopped at 1216 next message superfast at 1218--1222-1232-1252 then, I caught codes ukrainian giving what appeared to be land cordinates. Long pause. Next mesage 1554 1555 and 1557 only identica; mesage of the day..Another 5 hour silence 2006 transmission started then stopped Then, the 51 character m,essage aat 2010 Last monitored of day at 2145.

Report for Friday Oct 28, 2022 Monitoring start 0800 stop 22:00 EDT
There were a total of 16 messages for the 14 hr period. When things are normal, that's right at 50% of usual traffic under defcon 5 conditions. Thre was chatter in the distance, but too weak to catch. Word on the street says that little rocket man lobbed off 2 of those toys today.

times of transmission 1105--1528--15----1557--1845--1848--49 character message at 1848 regular 1904 1908--1924 1928-1929-1930-1933-1956-and 1958.

Repeated messages for 1924-1928-1929
Second repeat 1930-1933
Third repeat 1956-1958
All of those 3 repeats were different messages.

What are you suggesting here?

Maybe dark noon can take care of it.
Next time so I see this faster use the @ tool. This way it pings my notifications and will see it faster.

On average there are well over 120 posts a day (when it's slow). Hard for me to read everything everyday. We have become very active. So sorry if I miss things @everyone.

But anyways moved the posts here. Problem solved. 👍😁

The total report for Saturday October 29, 2022. Monitoring from 0800 to 22:00 EDT.
7 messages total standard ones at 13;45-1353 Next message was 14:22-1425 5th message was at 15:45

Then, the longest message that personally I've ever caught was a 194 (yes you read me correctly) 194 character message at 16:45. One final message 34 character at 1805.

After the 194 character message, there was a ton of activity on the spectral scale of frequencies ranging from 8970 to 9050. signals were weak, so I couldn't understand conversations or traffic. then from 1930, every 30 mins, the standing y for traffic was announced. No codes--just standing by for traffic.

Opinion. The biggest question in my mind personally ( with the 194 character message) is---- was this part of the exercise or was it real. I can't rule out either determination, due to the incidences in the Black Sea. Tomorrow, Oct 30 is supposed to be the ending of the exercise. I will continue to monitor tomorrow, but unless something is nuts or way out of kilter, I won't do any more daily reports like I have this past week. Sunday night should hopefully be the last of the daily reports.

Russia is in the midst of their exercises also, so honestly, like everyone else on this forum goes---I have no idea as to what to expect.

As far as patterns went, the timing was out of the ordinary, the heaviest traffic generally was from the noon to the 1300 bracket, sometimes several messages back to back. The kicker was on the repeat--meaning ( I figure) sometimes the message would match the repeat (which I figured was a valid message) and the other times only ONE or TWO characters would be different in the 30 character string. I figured that the non matching message was probably the exercise messages.

Oct 30 1300 EDT 216 characters. OMG. I sure hope that's just the drill. If not,,,,,we're in deep shit.
...and that's why I firmly believe spending too much time listening to EAMs is bad for mental health. 😁

Coming from someone who's spent a lot of time optimizing communication protocols: in a limited-bandwidth scenario (and this is certainly one such) you typically want to pre-encode "standard" messages (i.e. messages which you expect to come up, such as "launch the nukes" ;), so that they're brief and do not consume much bandwidth. This is why the skykings are so damn short - everything has been agreed upon beforehand, and also time is of the essence when nuclear war breaks out. However, every so often you end up having to transmit a nonstandard message - something they can't just look up in their codebooks. In such cases you do have to go letter by letter, and this results in a long message. Note that 216 characters is still really short - roughly the equivalent of a single Twitter post.

A chill pill might be in order (no offence meant). ;)

<MOD Edit: No personal attacks. Do not attack member, attack argument.>

Lesson two--Bandwidth has NO RELATION in shortwave traffic, because Shortwave with voice is an analog signal. The little digital signal at the end of the transmission is what keys either on or off the relays for transmitters and receivers around the world. ANY message above the standard 30 character is important--the more characters--the more important the message is. In the past 7 years, there have been the following numbers of characters----several in the 40 range----5 in the 60 range----two in the 104 range---1 in the 166 character and 1 in the 216 character.

Lesson three--Granted, a code for an actual launch will not be the 30 character,,, BUT it will have an authentication code and the voice will say authentication. #####

Lesson 4 I don't take your "suggestion of a chill pill" to heart. OK? I'm very used to high stress situations and I when I stop monitoring at the end of the day, it's forgotten about.

Finally--Although I didn't serve in the military, I served 37 years in the fire and police service. I swore to an oath to serve, protect and preserve. Just because that retirement plaque is on my wall doesn't mean that the oath stopped at retirement. Mine is a lifetime commitment. And as long as I have good health, I will continue to serve, protect and preserve.
