Los Angeles Fires - Reports only

Also, this is not either. A federal response to this disaster is expected and part of the reporting.

I’m beginning to notice certain people on this site have a habit of derailing certain threads, almost to stifle discussion, when certain things are said. Mods need to take more notice of these people, and look into where the IP’s are or if they use VPN.

@RiffRaff you shouldn’t have to be babysitting like this. You guys might need to do a government shill audit. Not kidding.
Agreed. @william - Just because a post mentions the name of a politician does NOT make it a political post. Knock off the juvenile bullshit.

So, when a politician speaks to the press it's not a political post! WTF!!!

I DON'T LIKE BULLIES!!!!!

POLITICAL POST!!!!!
Alright, so for every disaster from this point on, let’s just ignore everything all elected officials have to say. Seems very wise. 🙄

Just because the post has a politician in it, does not make it a political post. This isn’t a black and white situation. Contextually, an interview with the governor of the state of California discussing the disaster, and providing answers for pissed off Americans does not constitute the promotion or detraction of any particular political party.

Every opinion from a public figure has a potential political component. Does that means we should cease all reports from everyone for the fear of containing a political opinion. Then how can you define what is good or what is bad in terms of politics, that is the problem.

I think the intent of this thread is to talk about the wildfires themselves and what is happening. The politics of the wildfires are better addressed in its own, separate thread.
That's a thread I don't wanna touch with a 50 ft pole.

If my house catches fire, my first thought is not "which politician can I blame", even if a politician just committed arson on my house! I'm a little more worried about dealing with the fact my house is on fire. But to each their own, ig.

It may not be your first thought, but I guarantee you, once the shock wears off, you will indeed start wondering who is to blame for it.

Sure, but my point is the fires are ongoing. Not really a debate worth having until, yk, the fire is out. And then we can point fingers all day. Chances are, there is someone responsible. The idiot/maniac who almost certainly started the fires. And honestly, I dont think that funding would have made a difference in such current conditions.

Correct. Nothing would stop multiple fires in 100MPH winds. Literally nothing would. You can be as prepared as you want. But when winds reach hurricane force winds, check mate. There is no controlling a fire let alone several in those kind of wind conditions.

Those kind of conditions remind me of the fire storms after the bombing of Dresden and Tokyo. You simply cannot stop a fire with winds raging that high. All you can do is run for your life. I saw on NBC Nightly News that one of the victims of the fire tried to protect his home with a garden hose and ended up dying. Nothing is worth your life, even trying to save your property.

You know what, I think I agree with you. You aren't stopping a fire with those kinds of winds. I speak from experience.

But with more funds, you have more available for structure defense.

Yeah, that's not happening. Once the fire gets into the wood, you aren't putting it out. You have to cut it and remove it.

But if you can stop the embers from planting into the flammable material, you have a shot.

Problem was likely that there was simply too much and it overwhelmed. That's why we use water curtains when trying to protect adjacent structures.

And if I may, that if funding is available or used properly is a foundational political point.

You can’t disqualify any governmental response or preperation as not being a political point.

Any critique, compliment or dismissals of any governmental response or lack of has automatically become political statement.

So we can report in the non-politics forum only, period full stop. You also can’t use it as an excuse to hide from unwanted actions or lack of actions by any political clique you might or might not support.

So the forum is back to either reporting facts or reports purely. Which is hard enough with the plethora of news sites and worldviews out there today.

Welcome to the local chatter and claptrap at any local bar or cafe of your choice.
Bear in mind always in your travels that what is considered a self evident statement of fact in one region or country. Can very well be considered a falsehood, conflation of facts or doctrinaire interpretation in a different region.
Welcome to the jungle. Sometimes it is just about pissing down another’s back.

That is correct, and you know EXACTLY what I mean when I say "political post." Posting a video of a governor from a party you don't like giving a press conference on a natural disaster is NOT a political post. It's a news report.

Posting comments that have nothing to do with the natural disaster itself and focus only on the right-versus-left bullshit currently going on in this country IS a political post. And I don't care if you want to make the wildfires into a political debate, BUT DO IT IN THE FREAKIN' POLITICS FORUM WHERE IT BELONGS.

I DON'T LIKE BULLIES!!!!!
This site is not a democracy.

POLITICAL POST!!!!!
No, it's not, and that's the end of the discussion. Go start a thread in the Politics forum and I'll leave it alone as long as everyone keeps it civilized and doesn't engage in personal attacks. But keep it out of THIS thread.
