I live in Kansas and have taken that last of the evening flight into National Airport many times over the years. The airport closes down at 10 pm due to noise restrictions, at least I assume it still does. I'll share some info about that flight mainly because it says something about the type of people like to be on the passenger list. I hope nobody I know, but it isn't out of the question.
This flight was established primarily as a “citizen lobbyist” flight, meaning regular Kansans, like the mayor and city manager or school board of “FillInTheBlankVille” would travel to get their 15 minutes with Jerry and Roger and Tracey then meet with their staffs.
Same thing with all the trade associations, like the wheat growers, or the American Legion, or the oil and gas guys. Now, even some local reporters were using it to cover the Capitol.
This is peak “lobbying season” so I’m sure there was a bunch of people on that plane getting ready to land, maybe have a late supper with some pro from a national group, then hit the Hill running in the morning. There was a US Figure Skating Championship in Wichita this past week, with a followup workshop of some sort. A few US skaters, family members and two team coaches who were Russian skaters 30 years ago were on the plane. I have seen nothing yet about other passengers, but we won't until families are notified.
