So just for clarity, the current thought process is India will either conduct targeted assassination strikes against the leaders of the group that conducted the attack or against other strikes of the terror groups inside of Pakistan, were not thinking they will strike the Pakistani military directly correct?

This is a grey zone. Indian government officials have repeatedly emphasized they will target not only the perpetrators, but also those responsible for planning and supporting them. This is a direct reference to the Pakistani intelligence & military apparatus.

Times like these make you wish humans had never created religion. So much violence over centuries of shared existence, all in the name of my God is better than your God. It is a sad world for any creator to bear witness to. I hope you and your family along with your friends are doing alright in spite of all of this. The chances are slim for a diplomatic offramp but nonetheless the most strained controversial peace deal is still ultimately better than the price that will be paid in this conflict. I am hoping the world has learned this price through what has happened in Ukraine but I am worried that it's lessons have also been buried by hate and anger.
I share your general sentiment, but would suggest we're barking up the wrong tree. We're all programmed to want to kill each other and take each other's stuff. Religion simply provides a convenient excuse for indulging in these desires. Eliminating religion cannot and will not cancel basic human instincts. As a matter of fact, that's exactly what Marxism tried to do: stamp out religion. The USSR was fervently anti-religion. Didn't stop them from starting wars and generally behaving like your run-of-the-mill imperialist regime.

And as for wars and lessons therefrom - the only thing that's learned from wars is how to better prepare for the next war.

Government sources have confirmed to the Indian Express that a military option is being prepared in response to the Pahalgam terrorist attack, with operational planning and force posture adjustments underway. Current planning could involve the use of stand-off weaponry launched from Indian territory, with target selection still being finalized.

New Delhi continues to directly attribute responsibility to Pakistan, including senior leadership figures such as the Pakistan Army Chief.

Based on the available information, it is reasonable to assess that cruise and ballistic missile options are being actively considered.
The use of cruise and ballistic missiles scares me. How is Pakistan going to know if they are nuclear or conventional? This could very well spark nuclear retaliation due to the lack of clarity about the missile's payload.

Silver lining could be that Pakistan likely is aware that India had a no first use policy. However, would they trust that?

Its othering, mostly Islam is the worst about being religiously othering, but the problem isn't really religion. It's othering and tribalism, which religion often encourages, but people other all the time *cough* America *cough*
Arguably organized religion has been the vessel that the forces you mention act through, IE manifest destiny in NA, the crusades, the split between Catholicism and Lutheranism and the wars that were sparked from that moment, Pogroms committed against Jews for centuries, The Holocaust. You are probably correct though these psychological tribal instincts would continue even without organized religion, but damn it seems that is has exacerbated the problem. And even back in the middle ages in the height of these religious conflicts there was still some sense of respect for your enemies, while wholesale slaughter was not impossible, the taking of slaves was still seen as more humane than just slaughtering those who share a different religion than that of yours. Now the messages of hate are not directed against the power structures that use the religion as a shield, but against the common people that make up that religion. Vilifying the civilian population as complicit and therefore prone to acceptable reprisals in the name of God is a dangerous game and one that cannot be settled with diplomacy.

Does doctrine even mean anything? There is nothing stopping military & political leadership from using nuclear weapons if they wanted to.
I don't think India's leadership are willing to do a first strike with a nuclear-tipped missile. Pakistan's might be paranoid about it and launch a retaliatory strike when the missile's are in the air if they're unsure if they're conventional or not, so the former depends on lots of factors largely on the Pakistani side.

Here's hoping someone in that sad circus formerly known as the White House still cares enough to look at intel and reassure both sides in regard to potential nuclear use - the way they did last time.

But hey, India has apparently fought with Pakistan over JK for the past 1500 years - at least according to Trump - so perhaps they'll just roll over and fall asleep again.

Yes. That is my point, that Pakistani leadership has no way of knowing if those missiles are conventional or nuclear-tipped.

Nonetheless I don't want to derail the thread further, I agree with ya I just wish more people would see the human aspect of their enemies a bit more. {Also Idk why I thought Trotsky wasn't against religious persecution, total brainfart moment right there lol}

#Pakistan PM indicated his desire to visit Tehran & suggested that #Iran & Pakistan foreign ministers connect soon to discuss preparations and initiatives for regional tension reduction.

He also said Pakistan fully recognizes Iran's right to possess peaceful nuclear technology.

From what I've read, both North Korean & Iranian nuclear programmes owe a lot to Pakistani technology.

It's natural for Pakistan to want to be friends with Iran - geography condemns them to seek alignment with the China/Russia/Iran axis. Likewise, India is destined to seek an alliance with the USA, also because of geography.

Pakistan declared an emergency in local border regions:

Withholding water, then releasing it all at once suddenly - technically, the net flow of water remained the same.

It confuses me, why is there barely any global attention here? Western media are barely talking about this. Surely they are aware there is a risk of nuclear war here?
Western media have a cultural bias whereby your part of the world falls in the "unimportant" category. If the same thing was happening between the UK and France, it'd be all over the front pages everywhere.

Of course, if an actual nuclear war occurs, things will change on the media front.

Pretty shallow assessment for the causes of evil in the world. Stalinism Maoist Pol pot, Shining Path. 80 million +.
All in the name of some variant of athist communism.

I’m not diminishing the horrors perpetrated in the name of religion.
But the illness that infects humanity is found in humans themselves.

That is why over time socialism will never work because the cancer that eventually corrupts most endeavors will grab the levers of power in socialism and use it against their own.
That’s what fasicim

I reckon Iran probally should avoid giving the US an excuse to "defend" India by getting involved with this one.
