Current Position on the Escalation Ladder:
12 - Intense Conventional Warfare
13 - Large Conventional War
---
Why We're Here:
1. Intense Conventional Warfare (12):
- Cross border artillery strikes are hitting both civilian and military targets, extending deep into Pakistani territory as well.
- India hitting radar and SAM sites suggests targeted degradation of air defenses, typical in intense, sustained conventional warfare is a clear prelude.
2. Large Conventional War (13):
- The massing of tanks, troop mobilization, and heavy artillery along the LOC indicates preparation for large scale ground operations.
- Both sides are voting for escalation, which suggests willingness to move beyond symbolic strikes and into broader engagement.
- Civilian infrastructure is now in the crosshairs, with Lahore and other mainland cities being targeted this is a BIG step up from isolated skirmishes.
Next Rung on the Ladder:
14 - Declaration of Limited Conventional War
- If Pakistan officially declares a limited war or India moves from targeted strikes to sustained air campaigns, we will hit this stage.
- Any declaration of war or significant mobilization of naval assets would lock this stage in.
18 - Major Show of Force
- If India or Pakistan begin targeting major cities or industrial infrastructure with sustained bombing campaigns, we move here.
- This would involve targeting supply lines, transport hubs, and major population centers.
---
Indicators to Watch:
1. Official Declarations: If Pakistan or India officially declares limited war or mobilizes its reserves.
2. Air Superiority Moves: Attempted SEAD operations by Pakistan, or India launching major air campaigns. (Any further that what's already occurred.)
3. Naval Movement: Indian Ocean fleet mobilization or Pakistani naval deployments.
4. Mobilization of Armored Divisions: If India or Pakistan pushes mechanized divisions to the border for assault.
