Russo-NATO War (Georgia Mix-Up)

Really think the US would nuke itself? Especially when civilians would still be there.
I'm pretty sure there's a movie about that. In order to prevent all out nuclear war because we accidentally nuked Moscow in exchange we nuked New York City to prevent further escalation. The president decided it was better that we nuked ourselves than letting the Russians do it.
Found the movie and found the scene where the president says nuke NYC in order to prevent all out nuclear war. Good movie. Danm good movie.

Fail Safe 1964:

There are actually two versions of that movie. 1964 and 2000. I liked both.

It can be safely assumed a travel ban and communications blackout would've been implemented on New York City to ensure nobody can leave the city before it was destroyed and democracy temporarily suspended for 10 to 20 years so the President who authorized the destruction of New York couldn't be voted out?

Well if it is to negotiate a peace settlement with Russia, I don't think there would be no need to suspend democracy/constitution. Maybe martial law for awhile around NYC region as well its center would be a crater....

But if I remember correctly president has full authority to negotiate peace treaty so don't think it would be unconstitutional, maybe, all extremely speculative.. Even more so if congress gives the president special wartime powers already beyond the president board reaching powers as it has already in this regard.

Disenfranchisement of all families of everyone killed in New York possible?

Maybe somthing similar to the 9/11 funds we have now for victims family's but on a much, much, much larger scale. That would only be the only way forward really. Massive federal bailout of basically every single citizen around the NYC region, then the families of people across the country who had a family member lost in NYC included in these funds.

It wouldn't be impossible though for America. Next to impossible. But not entirely...

Here is the scene:

Still get chills watching that part.

Although I feel like the federal government should set something up similar right now in real life. Start stashing funds and adding funds and put it away for a rainy day.

Because nuclear terrorism is only going to become more credible and more prominent. The federal government should set up an insurance policy just in case New York City or other major center ever gets taken out. Because New York City alone economically being taken out of the equation suddenly would just be absolutely catastrophic if we didn't have something to fall back on.

Given how we went to condition yellow during the regional conflict between India and Pakistan, would the Russian invasion of the southeastern United States likely result in our maintaining condition yellow for the duration of the conflict with brief spikes to condition orange following the Fall of Washington DC and later the Battle of Moscow?

Good question. And something actually addressed in the movie Red Dawn. The US is not likely to use nukes on its own soil.

With the Fall of Washington DC, wouldn't there be a mindset among most Americans that we already lost the war and that we'd only have two options left either to surrender our country to the enemy or to retaliate massively against Russia's homeland?

Not at all. The public would not be willing to surrender just because Washington DC fell.

Russia attacking mainland USA conventional =America nukes Russia as soon as it starts or shortly after. Imo

The U. S. Capitol has faced violent incidents several times in its history. Key events include the Burning of Washington in 1814 and the January 6, 2021 attack.

1. The Burning of Washington (August 24, 1814): British forces captured Washington, D. C. during the War of 1812, setting fire to the Presidential Mansion and the Capitol, marking the first time a foreign power occupied the U. S. capital.

2. The January 6 attack: Supporters of President Trump stormed the Capitol to overturn the 2020 election results, disrupting the certification process and showing the risks of political violence in America.

Also, before Washington, D.C. became the permanent US capital, eight different cities served as temporary capitals. These cities were: Philadelphia, New York City, York, Pennsylvania, Lancaster, Pennsylvania, Princeton, New Jersey, Trenton, New Jersey, and Annapolis, Maryland. Capital Hill, specifically at the summit of what was then called Jenkin's Hill in Washing, D.C. The cornerstone was laid in a public ceremony by President George Washington on September 18, 1793.

Washington D.C. is America's capital and it is nostalgic. I would be very pissed off if it were attacked or destroyed, but it can move wherever it needs to be, and Americas will still FIGHT LIKE HELL to defend the rest of the country. The American spirit and national identity are not defined by a single building.

I can't imagine that. The US knows a nuclear attack on Russia would invite a nuclear response. Anyway, if Russia attacked the US conventionally, Russia would have no chance. Same reason England couldn't hold out. Too far away to keep the supplies coming. The US would eat Russian forces.
