I'd suggest you to stop worrying that much for that drone incident, and take it for what it is...a provocation, which in the end has been well managed on the NATO side.
End of story...unless we witness a new swarm of drones entering a border.
Until it's one or 2 it really means nothing.

The thing is...test or not test, these things can happen when you're bordering a country involved in a war on his own soil.
I don't believe that this was a mistake, but even if it was done on purpose, it really should not surprise us.

Yeah they’ve been talking about this since the start of the war really, it does amaze me that NATO has not built a better drone defense shield especially after the missile incident in 2022. Which yes was a missile not a drone but it showed that spillover was pretty much a guarantee.

I've been saying, we should be flying armed or unarmed reapers over Kaliningrad and Petersburg so long as they are doing this over Poland and other Nato members.

They’d be better off developing some sort of decoy drone like the Russians are flying, or better yet build an exact copy based off the ones they found in Poland and fly those and claim they’re actually Russian.

Given the fact that the NATO leader currently mainlining Russian oil is one Viktor Orban - who also happens to be famous (notorious?) for being among Trump's bestest buddies in Europe - this message (much like most of the stuff Trump says or does) makes zero sense, and the only reasonable way to interpret it is in terms of a half-brained excuse to not do anything that would make Putin angry with his American pet.

AFAIK there's been reports about Trump wanting Orban to stop doing that. Slovakia, on the other hand.

It was a provocation, a serious one to be sure. And I agree thus far NATO has responded well. Don’t forget that the different eastern boarder nations each have partner nations. So the resources and weapons sent will be in response to what the individual boarders nations might need defensively.
The US and Norway just finished an interoperability drill with each other for a joint long range bomber strike with B-1’s and if I remember correctly a B-2 out and over the arctic and a flyover of the Baltic.
They ended last week and yes they were preplanned of the recent drone incursions.
But four supersonic bombers with fighter escorts from Norway approaching Russias boarder and then paralleling it not something to be ignored by Russia.
Throw in a B-2 that could cross Into and out of Russias airspace.
So the response and ongoing nato drills is sufficent I “think”.
The question I have is what might Russia do next as a provocation? And what effect might it have.

Creates an interesting paradox. Only real resolve that has to be shown can't be any kind of tit for tat, but purely defensive, but at the same time that can be too little to give Russia pause and to make them think it's not a good idea to keep provoking NATO and not expect them to do anything in return, effectively wanting to create a normalization of drone 'mishaps' in order to potentially - speculation on my end - put more NATO air defenses in Eastern Europe. instead of being donated to Ukraine.
I’m aware many hate Trump. Forget about him for a second. Because of the stupid way the EU is set up that one asshat, Orban can stop or block EU aid to Ukraine.
Further because of the not stupid way NATO is set up that one ass hat Orban can stop or block the ascension of members or the commitment of resources.
Sucking up to him is a very good idea, as there is no work around.
I’m still not sure what we paid him or owe him in trade for his “Yes” votes on both of the Nordic countries joining NAYO. I assumed we had promised him F35’s and multiple air defense layers. At one point I read a whisper they were getting a redundant Aegis Ashore and MIM195 Pak 3’s. I figure we probably owe him some serious favors..
That the way it works.
PS I hate that it is like that, but I bet sucking up will work better than calling a significant ally and major OPEC player a fraking monster.

I disagree. Many ways to coerce a country. Especially when their are many mechanisms and levers the EU could pull to make Oban or Hungary as a whole more "cooperative".
Name one. He is in the middle of the EU. What are you going to do?
"Sucking up” isn’t strategy it’s tribute. Orban’s power comes from the illusion that Europe can’t live without his signature. Break the illusion.
Turn the valves/levers of money, market access, mobility, and military perks. Make every day he drags his feet materially worse than the day he signs. There are mechanisms in EU to make Oban more cooperative. There are many things the US could do too similarly. You don’t coddle a protection racket you starve it. When the subsidies slow, the trucks queue, the exercises skip, and the parts don’t show, Budapest suddenly discovers the art of cooperation.I did you betrer Torch and gave you a handful of examples.
And oh my what kissing Oban ass these past 10 years has accomplished. Oh right, NOTHING. We'll I suppose its emboldened Oban. That is something I suppose.

Nope. Well I guess the US could but the entire EU is required to respond…even when they don’t want to.
Not much different than a US state or Indian states (although I don’t believe the states are or have claimed to be sovereign.) Could you could clear that up, please.?

Thats the nail in the coffin. EU won't use the very real mechanisms that they could use to make Oban more cooperative. SO too could the US. It is not just on Europe. But you are right Europe won't take the first step.
Still does not mean in any world we should be kissing ass or apeasing Oban. Again what wonders that has done the past 10 years. Other than emboldened him...
Yep it sure is. Unfortunately the EU hasn’t been willing to kick Hungary out.
