Estonian newspaper Ohtuleht claimed that the incident happened near the island of Vaindloo and that it was the fourth violation of Estonian airspace this year.

On the morning of Friday, September 19, three Russian MIG-31 fighter aircraft entered Estonian airspace in the Vaindloo Island area without permission, which was in Estonian airspace for nearly twelve minutes.
The aircraft had no flight schedules and the transponders were switched off. At the time of the violation, there was also no bilateral radio communication with Estonian air traffic services.
Today, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs summoned the Chargé d'affaires of the Russian Embassy in Estonia and handed him over the note.
This year, it was the fourth violation of the Estonian air border by the Russian Federation aircraft.
