New Remove Politics Option - Beta

Hello everyone I'm working on making a toggle the politics section. Right now I do not have it optimized or anything.

First, when you guys enter the site WITHOUT DOING ANYTHING, do you still see the Venezuela opinions thread in the sidebar?
Now, if you go to "whats new", same thing, do you see the Venezuela opinions thread?

Now, if you scroll down and hit "Delete politics" AND refresh the page, does it disappear?
Now, if you go to the "whats new" page, did it ALSO disappear?

If you hit reset and refresh the page, does it show back up on both pages??

Do you see duplicated latest post sections, one without that thread and just the other, or do you just see 1 on each of those 2 pages?

Thank you for your help!

Yes

Yes - listed first

Yes. However, I did not see a "Delete Politics" button on the What's New page. I went back to the Forums main page to find and click this button.

I am not sure I follow this question. I only see one "Latest Posts" panel on the main Forums page. This is after I have clicked "Reset" and refresh the page.

FYI - testing conducted on my Windows PC with Chrome browser.

I figured the main page was all that is neccesary for rn, I think im gonna change things up a little bit but this is a rough proof of concept rn. Do you think I should have the options on both the pages?

You got it! There was a possibility that both the non-political and the political Sections would be visible and neither removed.

Thank you for your help!

No I do not think it was necessary. I was not sure if you were expecting testers to locate the button on the What's New page or elsewhere, which is why I reported how I got to the button... just in case.
Thank you for your help!
You're most welcome. Hopefully you've found a mechanism with the forum that helps with the politics / no-politics debate!

works for me on Firefox, windows and iOS Safari. I dont have an android device to test.

Also this toggle is device specific and does *not* follow your account.

For now it seems like it works, so I will give it some time.

LIMITATIONS:
This does not remove political posts from the trending posts section, that is something that has to wait as its more difficult for no good reason.

This does not remove the the politics section from the forum list, only the latest posts sections!

I will probably expand it but this cuts down visibility a lot for most users who choose.

This does NOT filter posts that exist outside of the "Politics" section.

If one of the mods (or @NuclearID ) can merge my testing threads with a new title "New Remove Politics Option - Beta" or something like that, keep it cleaned up while letting people know this is now a feature while also seeing my questions, yada yada, id appreciate it.

Oh ALSO since the feature is there if anyone likes(I was experimenting with it a while ago, didnt see a need to remove it), I really dont want to fill up the latest posts section much with another thread about this, but mobile users may find it useful. The 3rd button in that list will toggle the forum so that latest posts and trending posts show before the forum list, saves you some scrolls. On desktop it really isnt too relevant unless you want the sidebar on the left.

@Torch I think you use mobile only and I recall you complaining about having to scroll past trending posts in the past.

That is true. But the complaint was largely fixed with the return of the scrolling top/bottom arrows which were missing for a bit on my platforms.

I am 100% behind your method (or any other) to customize your personal experience. I would actually like to see how something like that would work on iOS.

This seems a long way from discontinuing areas that many enjoy. (I reliably informed there are those who enjoy clubbing baby seals (Oh my Lord! the sick things people will do for money!) mental images not withstanding I enjoy the political section. I always enjoy counter arguments and expanding my worldview. Many times it has changed, here. Sometimes at your very hands.

Ok I need to move on a bit. If anyone needs anything just shout out or PM me.

Thanks!

These functions work on my iPhone, I'm not exactly sure what you mean, but.

I mostly did it because some people do not want to see the posts in the "latest" section, as it makes it harder to ignore them.
