Trump says he spoke with Narendra Modi and claims India will stop buying Russian oil, buy more from the United States (and possibly Venezuela), and immediately agreed to a US-India trade deal including a reduced “reciprocal tariff” (25% to 18%) and India cutting tariffs/non-tariff barriers “to ZERO.”

The SIPRI Yearbook for 2025 states that India is developing canister-based missiles which,
  • Allow quick deployment.
  • Are likely to carry multiple warheads in the future.
  • When combined with recent moves towards conducting sea-based deterrence patrols, suggests that India could be shifting in the direction of mating some of its warheads with their launchers even in peacetime.

India’s Defence Acquisition Council (DAC) approved Acceptance of Necessity for the Indian Air Force for Multi Role Fighter Aircraft (MRFA) tagged as Rafale, combat missiles, and an Air-Ship Based High Altitude Pseudo Satellite (AS-HAPS). PIB says most MRFA will be made in India. Missiles aim to boost standoff deep-strike accuracy. AS-HAPS is for persistent ISR, ELINT, telecoms and remote sensing.

Highlights include renewal of the bilateral defence cooperation agreement for 10 years, a BEL-Safran joint venture to manufacture HAMMER (AASM) munitions in India, creation of a Joint Advanced Technology Development Group for emerging and dual use technology, confirmation of the 26 Rafale Marine contract along side the inauguration of the H125 helicopter final assembly line for Tata Advanced Systems & Airbus, and reciprocal officer deployments between Indian Army and French land forces.

India & Israel procurement agreements are expected for layered air defense, including Arrow (IAI), David’s Sling and Iron Dome (Rafael), and laser based interceptors. Additional reporting says the focus is especially on Iron Dome plus Iron Beam, Israel’s high energy laser air defense system, alongside interest in counter drone defenses aimed at drone swarms.

India conducted the successful flight-trial of an Advanced Agni missile with Multiple Independently Targeted Re-Entry Vehicle (MIRV) system from Dr APJ Abdul Kalam Island, Odisha on May 08, 2026. The missile was flight-tested with multiple payloads, targeted to different targets spatially distributed over a large geographical area in the Indian Ocean Region.

India’s Ministry of Defence says INS Sunayna departed Chattogram, Bangladesh on May 10 under the Indian Ocean Ship SAGAR initiative and is now en route to Colombo, Sri Lanka. The visit included Bangladesh Navy engagements, cross deck exchanges, and a PASSEX with BNS Protoy and Bangladesh Navy air assets.
