Exercise Fighter Lion concluded after involving nearly 7,000 Dutch and German troops and thousands of vehicles across the Netherlands and Germany.

The exercise tested large scale combat operations, logistics and the transfer of an active battle between brigades. Drone threats and electronic warfare were integrated throughout, while troops tested counter drone netting and constructed an underground field hospital.

The Finnish Air Force will deploy five F/A-18 Hornets and approximately 50 personnel to Leeuwarden Air Base for the flying phase of Weapons Instructor Course 26 from July 6th to 10th.

The multinational course includes Finland, the Netherlands, Belgium, Norway and Denmark. Finland says participation will strengthen cooperation with European F-35 operators and improve interoperability between fourth and fifth generation combat aircraft ahead of the arrival of its first F-35As in autumn 2026.

More than 50 snipers organized into 32 teams from 12 NATO countries and Ireland participated in the Danish International Sniper Competition at Borris.

This year’s scenarios emphasized operating under drone surveillance, including concealment from unmanned aircraft, drone detection and reaction drills, simulated engagements and an 11 kilometer tactical race incorporating six tasks.

Turkish authorities arrested 103 suspects in Ankara as part of anti terror operations ahead of the July 7th & 8th NATO summit.

Authorities said 225 suspects had been detained in operations targeting terrorist organization activity. Police procedures for remaining suspects were continuing as Ankara tightened security before hosting NATO leaders.

Türkiye and Canada said they are working to elevate ties to a strategic level ahead of the NATO summit in Ankara.

The talks covered trade, defence, energy and global diplomacy. Canada’s foreign minister said the summit is expected to focus on defence industry cooperation, integrated supply chains and interoperability, while both sides said they will use the summit to deepen defence and security ties.

Polish firms WZM and H. Cegielski-Poznań signed an MoU with BAE Systems to expand Polish production, servicing and modernization capabilities connected to M88A2 Hercules recovery vehicles.

The cooperation supports Poland’s Abrams based armored capability and is intended to build Polish capacity for M88A2 production, maintenance, repair and modernization, with potential support for the US Army and other European users of American tracked equipment.

Destinus has produced its 1,000th T150 miniature turbojet engine, used in the company’s Ruta cruise missile family.

The company frames the milestone as part of building independent European long range strike production capacity. ZBIAM reports the T150 line is scalable and tied to cooperation with Rheinmetall Destinus Strike Systems, while a stronger T220 engine is planned for the larger Ruta Block 3 missile.

Polish forces conducted Dzielny Dzik 26 at the Port of Elbląg, simulating an assault on critical infrastructure controlling water traffic in the port.

The activity involved land, air and water elements, including Mi-17 helicopter insertion, AH-64 Apache support, territorial defence boats, divers and the ORP Śniardwy minesweeper. It was part of Bursztynowy Obrońca 26, a wider exercise federation involving around 10,000 soldiers.

The UK says over £500 million will go into its Commando Force under the Defence Investment Plan, including high speed Commando Insertion Craft, drones, autonomous systems, networked targeting, strike drones, and next-generation communications.

The UK says the force will support NATO deterrence, rapid reaction, and High North operations.

Putin says Ukraine proposed halt to deep strikes

Russian President Vladimir Putin says Ukraine has proposed a mutual halt to long-range strikes and a meeting with Kyiv’s leadership. But, though he says he is considering the proposal, he believes the deal would benefit Ukraine more than Russia.

The UK says it will build at least six new Common Combat Vessel air defence warships to replace the Type 45 destroyers from the late 2030s, with the ships designed to coordinate uncrewed systems across air, surface, and undersea domains.

The UK says the program is tied to North Atlantic and High North deterrence, protecting undersea infrastructure, and supporting NATO posture.
