ALERT⚠️ | RAF Fairford Major Incident! Explosives Arrests, EOD Response & Heightened USAF Security

Preliminary timeline of RAF Fairford plot:
-Yesterday afternoon plane spotters started to notice increased security at RAF Fairford, including blocked crash gates with armored vehicles, and an alert tannoy wailing around the base.
-Shortly afterward around 5-7pm spotters were instructed by armed police officers to leave the area immediately after intelligence was received of threat.
-Around 12 to 12:45 3 white vans arrived in the town of Whelford, several locals saw the vehicles travelling through, some report up and down the town. I am making an assumption that they travelling north towards Whelford from the A419 road, why they appeared to have stopped in the town is not clear to me yet.
-At 12:45 they were reported when a local farmer saw the men suspiciously looking around in Balaclavas and scattering into the fields facing the airbase.
-By 1:10 all suspects were in custody as armed police had rushed to the scene presumably already knowing of the heightened threat level in the area.
-At 2 residents recall hearing shouting and multiple men swarmed by police being escorted down the road already arrested for some time, at this point police had realized a bomb threat was plausible and British army bomb squad vehicles started to arrive.
-By 6PM the village was already nearly evacuated with 80 houses clear, at this point a 400m cordon had been put in place, and RAF fair fords base security put on high alert with patrolling armored vehicles.
-Throughout the day Bomb squad used robots to open several of the vans on the inside it appeared to be filled with black barrels, at this point around 3pm a NOTAM had been ordered so news helicopters could no longer see what was unfolding.
-By 4pm police had indicated this was a terrorist offence by charging the suspects with terrorism acts, until now investigations are still ongoing. Numerous sources have indicated potential links to foreign actors like Iran, whilst the physical defusing operation appears to still be in swing.
-By the current time residents have not been allowed back into their houses.

UPDATE ON CONFIRMED/SOURCED MATERIAL: RAF Fairford

The U.S. Embassy in London has issued a security alert following the RAF Fairford arrests, urging Americans in Britain to exercise caution and warning that facilities, gatherings and organizations associated with the U.S. may be at heightened risk. The Embassy also notes the UK terrorism threat level remains severe.

A Whelford resident who raised the alarm told BBC Radio 4 she first called MOD Police at RAF Fairford but received no answer, then called 999 at 01:36 BST. She said armed police arrived within roughly 10 minutes. Gloucestershire Police's official chronology says police received a call concerning the three vehicles at 00:45 BST, leaving the timing discrepancy unresolved.

The witness also says she saw more than five people at the scene, with masked men scattering into nearby fields and toward the surrounding area. Police have arrested five and Gloucestershire Police leadership has indicated officers are not currently seeking anyone else in connection with the incident.

Defence Secretary Wes Streeting thanked the resident for alerting authorities but said she had only “a partial picture” of the security operation and declined further detail on operational security grounds.

Counter Terrorism Police update - c. 1230 UK BST (1130 UTC)

---

The Counter Terrorism Policing investigation into an incident reported close to RAF Fairford in Gloucestershire on Sunday 27 September is continuing.

Specially trained CTP investigators have been examining the scene overnight and have been carrying out a range of activity, which have led to multiple new lines of enquiry.

The nature of this investigation means significant numbers of resources, including military assets, remain deployed at the location, and we thank the public for their ongoing support. We are working hard to minimise disruption to local communities, but ask for their patience, as our work continues at the scene.

A cordon remains in place at the location and will be reviewed later today.

Five men were arrested in Whelford on Sunday morning, following reports of three vehicles travelling towards the airbase at 12.45am.

They were detained on suspicion of offences under the Explosives Act and preparation of a terrorist act contrary to Section 5 of the Terrorism Act:
  • Male, 24, London resident of Borough of Camden, UK national
  • Male, 24, London resident of Borough of Westminster, UK national
  • Male, 25, London resident of Borough of Westminster, UK national
  • Male, 23, London resident of Borough of Westminster, UK national
  • Male, 24, London resident of Borough of Willesden, UK national
The men are being held under the Police and Criminal Evidence Act (PACE) and a custody extension has been secured until later today.

At this time, we are working to establish the full circumstances of the activity of those arrested, their knowledge and any motivation behind this incident.

Counter Terrorism Policing Senior National Coordinator, Deputy Assistant Commissioner Vicki Evans said:

“This is a hugely complex and large-scale operation, involving local and national policing, the MOD, and local agencies, who are working together to progress the investigation and support for the community.

“I know this has been incredibly disruptive for local people, but I’d like to reassure them that our activity is in the interest of national security, but most importantly in the interest of their own safety.

“I’d also like to thank the emergency services for their response, including the armed officers who first attended the scene, not knowing what they may face.

“I am very aware of the levels of speculation about the motivation behind this incident, and the geopolitical questions that are being raised. However, I ask that at this time, CTP are given the space to work carefully and clearly.”

Plane spotters report enhanced security prior to events of Sunday morning.

------

A young plane spotter named Monty was one of the people who helped me and others to break the RAF Fairford story last night. He posted what he had seen on a local spotting Facebook page, and I just spoke to him by phone. Here’s his account:

“Me and my little cousin are obsessed with planes. We went down on Friday and saw a B-1 take off. Yesterday, about six of us - my cousins, my granddad and me - went back to have a look.

“We were waiting for something to come in, because planes normally arrive at around 6pm. We were the only people there when armed British police officers came over and told us to leave immediately.

“We went to Whelford and parked on a small grassy area to see if anything came in. Nothing did, but we kept seeing police arrive, about four at a time. There were so many that we left.

“I also saw large military vehicles outside the runway area. I think they were JLTVs, or something like that. There hadn’t been much security where we were spotting planes on Friday, but yesterday there were lots of armed American military personnel.

“We saw a few white vans going up and down the road, too. They kept passing us, and the people in them seemed to be looking around. We thought it was strange.”

------
I'm starting to wonder if the security forces are happy for us all to think that they were incompetent in order to maintain OpSec.

UPDATE ON CONFIRMED/SOURCED MATERIAL: RAF Fairford

Iran's Embassy in London has formally denied any link to the five British nationals arrested near RAF Fairford, rejecting reports connecting Tehran to the suspected plot. UK authorities have made no attribution to Iran, while possible foreign involvement remains under investigation.

Isn’t kind of a no brainer that if Iran was involved, they’d deny it? Also, how long does it take for them to ID the suspects? They already have them in custody…..

If the suspects are some of the thousands of illegals in the country, then they don’t have reliable identification and Iran is not likely to backstop them if they’re involved.

MAJOR UPDATE ON CONFIRMED/SOURCED MATERIAL: RAF Fairford

The five men arrested near RAF Fairford are being released on police bail following extensive interviews and enquiries, Counter Terrorism Policing says.

Assistant Commissioner Laurence Taylor said the men remain under active investigation and are subject to stringent conditions restricting their movement and contact with others.

Police stressed that release on bail does not mean the investigation is over. Multiple lines of enquiry remain active.

The three vehicles linked to the arrests were searched with support from military assets and forensic specialists, while significant resources remain deployed at the scene and the cordon remains in place.

There is currently no confirmed evidence supporting claims circulating online that the men were merely stealing fuel, were completely cleared, or that separate suspects remain at large.

Or.....as I posted above....maybe they were just trying to steal fuel.
Would explain the empty dump lying around by the vans in the original photo.
If that where the case then why did the police say this?

Things got, more interesting IMO. But I am not speculating on anything anymore, clearly something is up, one way or another, and hopefully we will find out shortly... one way or another.
