| UA-RU WAR | NATO Crisis | ANALYSIS & DISCUSSION

So Trump basically just declared that both sides had agreed to a ceasefire.... when Zelensky didn't know about it (and Russia was striking energy targets as he sent that out..?). Sounds like he just made it up and hoped it was followed.
Wishful thinking or whatever the White House FP analysts have laid out as their official strategy regarding ending this war. Fake it till you make it, or at least until everyone that disagrees with you is dead/out of power. Hopefully the Magic 8 Ball gives our Commander in Chief anything other than an, "I don't know, come back tomorrow."

Thoroughly disgusted.

DN I’m disgusted too, I’m disgusted we, the US and all NATO members did not confront the invasion more seriously and aggressively from the start.
I’m disgusted we did not seriously count the cost that it would take to deter Russians fighting what they regard as a defensives war near their borders. And irrespective of how we see the causes of Russia, this is absolutely what is motivating Russia, correctly or incorrectly.

You know I have been encouraging more direct involvement from the US and NATO for several years now. That simply sending weapons and intel alone to Ukraine would not be enough. I’ve repeatedly pointed out the inconsistencies on Russian oil and gas sanctions not just with India and China but Europe and US as well.

It’s not working, and over 1 million are dead. The attacks on Oct 7th and war in Gaza are less then 1000000. And half the world is screaming genocide.

So is there a military and a proven enforceable economic plan to win it for Ukraine?
Has anyone convincingly argued that if we just keep sending more weapons and aid to Ukraine. While globally and halfheartedly trying to sanction Russian oil and gas. Is going to lead to victory for Ukraine. I haven’t heard it.

Im not just disgusted, I’m embarrassed that once again we committed to a path and failed to count the cost or implement a strategy, a dangerous, strategy. That would lead to victory. Does Russia look like it’s going to collapse? Now or at anytime in the past four years.

But just continuing to send the same levels of aid and half-heartedly enforce sanctions has not worked for several years. Not just during this presidents second term.

We either need to go all in in a much more significant and likely kinetic way. Or try to end it as satisfactory as possible.

Now agreeing to a diesel supply deal now is clearly a change in course. The necessity or cause for it is clearly impacted due to the fighting in the Gulf and the combined impact on diesel supplies.
And what of Ukraines response to US request to stop or limit attacks on Russian diesel supplies and refining, No. ok why are we still sending patriot batteries to an “ally” who is refusing our request.

But everyone is screaming about diesel supplies, not just in the US but worldwide.

Given how tepidly Europe supported recent US Israeli and let’s not forget Several Gulf States actions against Iran.
Do we really believe the major nations in Europe were going to get behind kinetic actions against Russia? Let alone drumming up enough support domestically in the US to escalate. And that would be exactly what it is, an escalation.

So sure keep sending billions of dollars to a war where millions of Russian and Ukrainians have died. All while continuing to see most of the world half heartedly enforce sanctions or import bans.
In 2026 Europe still receives 13 % of their energy supplies from Russia. It’s down from the prewar 40%. But it’s still flowing.

Why would Ukraine limit attacks on Russian diesel supplies & refining when Russia won't do the same & will continue striking Ukrainian energy? Asking an ally to fight with one hand tied behind their back and then using it to justify not supporting them is quite the statement.

Sure I get it and it’s a choice they’re free to make. If I was in their shoes I might make that choice. That does not mean they can assume it wont provoke a reaction from said ally to make a choice I might not be happy with.

This argument can just as easily be used against Ukraine, they said no -we said no.

Make no mistake I do not like the situation for Ukraine, not at all. I’m just being realistic. What can or must be done to force Russia to end hostilities in a manner that Ukraine accept?

If a plan to defeat or divert Russia out of Ukraine cannot be named and also supported by a majority of NATO.
Then what are we doing other than ignoring reality.

Approaching Putin regarding diesel is of course pressure on Ukraine. Why is it excepted that US or any other nation must continue to support this war forever with the same failed tactics and policies of the last five years.

Other wise send in the stealth fighters B-2, carpet bomb the Russian forces on the front lines. Destroy all transportation avenues from Russia to the front in Ukraine. Deploy an army corp to Ukraine and start blockading Russian ports.
you either are completely committed to supporting and defending Ukraine with everything. Or just keep playing at it.
We’re at a million dead and 360 billion burned.
Is this what we signed on for in 2022, I signed on to win and if we’re not committed to that then we might as well try to end it or cut bait.

Yo

You might be right, I don’t fully support or believe the administration tactics to bring the war to an end will work. I can understand the actions with Putin but don’t believe those alone will be sufficient. We are likely going to have to put some military pressure on Russia to get them to negotiate. Just as we’re having to put some tactics pressure on Ukraine. It’s not the first time an administration tried to control or limit Ukraines tactics to limit unintended consequences.

FT exclusive: before Trump suddenly announced an energy ceasefire between Russia & Ukraine today (catching Zelenskyy by surprise, & possibly also Putin…), US officials had spent the weekend calling European capitals & threatening to stop Europeans from purchasing U.S. weapons for Ukraine if Kyiv didn’t stop its attacks on Russian oil refineries, European & Ukrainian officials tell my colleagues
