Islamabad: A Pakistan minister has courted controversy by saying that any country that will support India over the Kashmir issue will be hit by a missile by Pakistan and considered as an “enemy” of Islamabad.

“If tensions with India rises on Kashmir, Pakistan will be compelled to go to war. Hence, those countries backing India and not Pakistan (over Kashmir) will be considered as our enemy and a missile will be fired at India and those nations supporting it,” Minister for Kashmir Affairs and Gilgit Baltistan, Ali Amin Gandapur said at an event on Tuesday.

Pakistan-based journalist Naila Inayat tweeted a part of the video in which the minister is seen making the inflammatory remarks.

That minister is full of it. Pakistan is not going to lob missiles on other countries just because they support India. That just invites more bombs to fall on you.

I think everyone knows that India will "win" any nuclear conflict with Pakistan, and Pakistan knows that as well. They may have developed a kind of "Sampson Option" that involves lobbing missiles at anyone and everyone simply because they know they've got nothing to lose.

I'm not exactly sure what "winning" a nuclear conflict looks like.

Hence the quotations. But given the fact that Pakistan and India both have similar numbers of nuclear weapons, and given India's population/land mass versus Pakistan's population/land mass, if you reduce the definition of "winning" to whichever country has the the most surviving population and infrastructure following the war, India would be the clear winner. There are a lot of assumptions in that analysis, such as China not getting involved, and I'm not taking into account the impact such a war would have on neighboring countries with radioactive fallout nor the global economic crisis that would immediately follow. In the end, I think India would be able to continue to function as a (crippled) nation state, whereas Pakistan would simply cease to exist as a country.
