UPDATE: Uzbekistan is laying out the structure behind its integrated nuclear power plant project. Two 55 MW small units plus two 1,000 MW large units at one site, with an estimated total project cost of $9.5B. UzA says 85 to 90% of financing is expected from external credit resources, with talks planned involving the BRICS New Development Bank. Localization is targeted at 30%, and the project is being framed as a long term industrial, energy Security, and technology transfer play.

Also notable: Uzbekistan says the plant will use dry cooling towers to reduce water demand, a key detail given regional water stress.

The UK Parliament is scrutinizing the financing of Sizewell C Nuclear Power Plant today. The Public Accounts Committee is holding a June 8 evidence session on whether the planned Suffolk nuclear station is value for money. Parliament says Sizewell C could cost up to £47.7B and generate around 7% of current UK electricity demand.

DOE says Antares Nuclear’s Mark-0 advanced reactor reached first criticality at Idaho National Laboratory. This was a zero power fueled criticality demonstration, not commercial power generation.

This is a major advanced reactor milestone. DOE frames it as the first privately developed non-light water reactor to reach criticality in the U.S. in more than four decades.

The NRC’s Crane Clean Energy Center page shows the former Three Mile Island Unit 1 restart review is moving through the environmental review track. NRC says a draft Environmental Assessment and draft Finding of No Significant Impact have been issued, with public comments running through July 8, 2026.

This is not restart approval. But it is a meaningful regulatory milestone for the proposed return of TMI-1 / Crane Clean Energy Center to service after the plant ceased operations in 2019.

TEPCO says fuel removal from Fukushima Daiichi Unit 2’s spent fuel pool began on June 2nd, 2026. TEPCO expects the removal work to be completed during FY2028. The operation uses a fuel handling facility, front chamber, access system, and remote work instead of dismantling the upper part of the reactor building, with TEPCO citing dust and radioactive material control as part of the safety rationale.

UPDATE: Dummy fuel assemblies have been loaded into Akkuyu Nuclear Power Plant Unit 1. These are dummy assemblies, not nuclear fuel. They replicate the design, weight, and dimensions of real fuel assemblies but contain no nuclear material.

This is one of the final preparatory stages before cold and hot testing ahead of physical start up. Türkiye is still aiming for first electricity generation from Akkuyu by the end of this year 2026.

Bruce Power says NPP Unit 3 has returned to service after its Major Component Replacement project. The company says the unit returned more than seven months ahead of schedule, while Ontario’s government says the work was completed ahead of schedule and under budget.

Bruce Unit 3 began its refurbishment outage in March 2023, reconnected to the grid on June 3, 2026, and completed final power ascension and testing steps before returning to service.

Actemium Design UK says it has been selected by the UK National Nuclear Laboratory as a Strategic Design Partner to support development of UK High Assay Low Enriched Uranium capability at Springfields. The four year framework covers engineering design support for sovereign HALEU production capability.

HALEU remains one of the major bottlenecks for several next generation advanced modular reactor designs. Nuclear fuel cycle & advanced reactor supply chains major development note.

A 120 tonne core catcher has been installed for Leningrad Nuclear Power Plant Unit 7.

World Nuclear News reports Unit 7 is the third VVER-1200 unit in the plant’s second phase.

Units 7 and 8 are intended to replace older RBMK Units 3 & 4 as they are shut down.

First concrete for Leningrad Unit 7 was poured in March 2024, followed by Unit 8 in March 2025.

EDF & Centrica are prepared to invest about £800M to extend U.K's Nuclear Power Plant 'Sizewell B’s' operating life from 2035 to 2055.

Reuters says EDF is seeking a framework agreement with the UK government to reduce commercial risk before an investment decision.

Sizewell B is the UK’s only pressurised water reactor and supplies nearly 1.2 GW to the grid.

EDF previously said a 20 year extension is technically feasible, with negotiations ongoing over a long term power price model.

EIA says U.S. civilian nuclear reactor owners and operators purchased 55.9M pounds U3O8e for 2024 deliveries, up 8% from 2023.

The weighted average price was $52.71/lb, the highest since 2012.

EIA says Canada was the largest origin source at 36% of 2024 deliveries, followed by Kazakhstan at 24%, Australia at 17%, Uzbekistan at 9%, and Namibia/Russia at 4% each.

U.S. origin material rose to 8%.

EIA also says U.S. reactor operators bought 15M SWU in enrichment services during 2024, with 81% foreign origin SWU and 20% from Russia.

Poland plans to select a partner for its second nuclear power plant in 2027 and confirm the location in 2028. Poland’s updated nuclear program still targets 6 to 9 GW of nuclear capacity.

The first Westinghouse backed plant is planned to begin construction in 2028 and supply the grid in 2036.

Reports also say Poland is no longer in dialogue with South Korea for the second plant after potential South Korean partners did not respond to Warsaw’s invitation.

New York says the Public Service Commission has launched a Nuclear Reliability Backbone process to examine pathways for bringing new advanced nuclear power online.

The state frames the plan around an eventual 8.4 GW nuclear backbone, with existing 3.4 GW nuclear assets, plus 5 GW of new nuclear generation.

That 5 GW includes the previously directed NYPA project for at least 1 GW of advanced nuclear generation, plus an additional 4 GW pathway from the 2026 State of the State process.

NYPA recently issued an RFQ for nuclear developers / delivery partners and an RFA tied to a $40M nuclear workforce development commitment.
