I feel that India has good relations with pretty much all the world powers and would be a good mediator in the conflict in Ukraine, possibly even patrol a DMZ between the two. It is geography close, gets along with russia, china, europe and the US. I know India is upset over the tariff situation right now with the US but I'm sure that could be resolved pretty easily if they would actually agree to get involved politically and militarily to stop the war. Perhaps. It would mean multiple things:
  • Huge soft power boost. India patrolling and maintaining peace in Europe between Russia & NATO is something that will inevitably be favourable to our standing globally.
  • The sheer symbolism of a post-colonial state now maintaining peace in the continent responsible for its colonisation.
  • Also means that India risks getting involved in military conflict with either NATO or Russia. Our troops would be put in harms way, for a war that seems foreign to most citizens who honestly couldn't locate Ukraine on a map. This will be difficult to sell.

This is the tough one, however I don't see NATO or the US attacking Indian troops and if russia wants India to keep buying russian petroleum I don't think they would attack Indian troops either. It could work. IMO

I don't see them attacking either, but how are you going to sell it to the families of the soldiers who are sending their sons and daughters to a country whose name they cannot pronounce and have never heard of before?

Patriotism and the prospect of raising their standard of living. Like I said, if India could actually pull this off, I believe the west would be very generous with capital investment and such.

The damage being done by the current Trump regime in diplomatic relationships is not confined just to India. Other countries are cooling to the USA with what they feel as good reasons. In Australia even individuals are becoming negative and reticent towards the USA.

Gee, I wonder why Modi won't pick up Trump's calls? Maybe it has something to do with stuff like this. From our point of view, coming in good faith has been a colossal failure.
 
The conflict in Ukraine is Putin's war, not "Modi's war" and anyone who thinks this patently ridiculous formulation is going to provide leverage with New Delhi is beyond delusional. At this point, this is sabotage, pure and simple. And it is hard to escape the conclusion that some people on the U.S. side are arsonists who are deliberately torching 25 years of work to build U.S.-India relations.
