Iran accuses Russia of sale of confidential codes of anti-aircraft missiles to Israel

According to the source, Damascus and Tehran "were shocked" every time the Russian-made air defense system did not work to defend Syria's airspace, or even give notification that the air space had been penetrated in order to evacuate outposts prior to the airstrike. The systems are supposed to identify the takeoff of Israeli Air Force jets from their bases because of the small distance between the countries and is even supposed to attempt to target the planes and any missiles that are fired from them.

The source added that "the Syrian radar treated Israeli fighter jets as friendly planes in the past and not as enemy planes, which proves that Israel knew the codes of the missile system.

So much for it being IAF's amazing ECM which prevented Syrian missiles from being a threat. In any case, all sophisticated weapons have IFF systems to prevent lock-on of friendly assets. America's Patriot missile system is notorious for having a very poor IFF system, and this proved a serious threat to American aircraft during the Gulf War. Simultaneously, when one of these systems is sold to another country, the IFF system remains intact. If America were to bomb Israel today, Israel would discover that American aircraft are very difficult to detect and to lock onto, because Israel would be defending by use of American weapon systems. If Russia were to bomb Ukraine today, Ukraine would discover the same, because it would be defending largely using Soviet weapons systems.

It could be that the Russians provided the Israelis with the necessary transponder codes in order to prevent Syria from retaliating, thus escalating the situation. However, it's also possible that Israeli intelligence has acquired the codes without any Russian assistance, either directly or from an ally. Russia didn't have to give the codes away from Israel to have acquired them.

They're not allies in the truest sense of the word. They're currently partners because their interests are aligned, for the moment. Iran hasn't formally aligned with Russia, and still hasn't agreed to even join SCO, a form of alliance between Russia, China and other states. Mind you, Iran and Russia have a long history of friendship and betrayal. Russia for example betrayed Iran during the Siege of Heart in the 1800s, and betrayed Iran again during WW2, leading to Britain attacking Iran in order to occupy its oil fields for Russia. During the Iraq-Iran War, Russia was backing Iraq. Iran's suggestion that Russia has betrayed Syria is demonstrative of Iran's great distrust for Russia.
