Iran protests

Unconfirmed
#BREAKING: Two Battalion commanders of #IRGC's Fajr corps were killed by unidentified IRGC officers who refused to follow their orders to send snipers for killing unarmed protesters in #Shiraz! This has created fear among IRGC commanders of #Iran's Islamic Regime since morning! https://t.co/mBYOUu6OIp

IMHO:
1. Small chance of protest success
2. Suddenly raising the price so high - what did they ministry think about?

The U.N. human rights office voiced deep concern on Tuesday at the Iranian security forces' use of live ammunition against demonstrators and urged authorities to rein in its use of force to disperse protests sparked by a hike in fuel prices.

#IranProtests Takeaway
1. The uprising marked a turning point for both protestors & regime. Both demonstrated remarkable willingness to escalate violence. Protestors had no leadership or clear political grievance as in 2009. The entire system was the target. Riots & chaos.

2. Regime demonstrated brazen willingness to crush & kill. Security forces opening fire at unarmed protestors in multiple cities. And total disregard of international backlash by shutting down the internet.

3. As an Iran watcher this looks like the start of a new chapter. Iranians coming to terms with a new reality of oppression. Regime coming to terms with a tinderbox that can erupt again anytime.
4.Regime can blame "foreign enemies" all it wants but even if foreign enemies could mobilize this level of popular unrest across Iran, the Islamic Republic is in deep trouble.

Iran will destroy the United States and its allies if they cross Tehran's red lines, the head of the country's elite Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) said in an address to a pro-government rally denouncing last week's violent protests over the rise in fuel prices.

Addressing thousands of demonstrators in the capital on Monday, General Hossein Salami accused the US, the United Kingdom, Israel and Saudi Arabia of stoking the unrest, in which dozens were killed by Iran's security forces.

"We have shown restraint ... we have shown patience towards the hostile moves of America, the Zionist regime [Israel] and Saudi Arabia against the Islamic Republic of Iran ... but we will destroy them if they cross our red lines," he said

Any word on what these "red lines" are?

Iranian security agents arrested at least eight people linked to the CIA during last week's deadly unrest over petrol price increases, the official news agency IRNA reported on Wednesday.

"These elements had received CIA-funded training in various countries under the cover of becoming citizen-journalists," it quoted the intelligence ministry as saying. "Six were arrested while attending the riots and carrying out [CIA] orders and two while trying to ... send information abroad."

It's entirely possible that Iran is lying about their CIA connection.

OTOH, who knows? Could be true.
