There have been 7 confirmed cases of the Andes hantavirus, with 2 probable/suspected cases. So far, all of the confirmed cases can be linked directly to the M/V Hondius. Of the 7 confirmed cases, there have been 3 fatalities. Here is a list of the active cases, their condition, and location:
* 1 British citizen, Johannesburg, South Africa. Improving gradually. Previously in critical intensive care with pneumonia.
* 1 French citizen, Paris, France. Condition is reported as deteriorating as of 2026-05-11.
* Ship's doctor and a ship guide, The Netherlands (Multiple Locations). Both are reported as stable.
* 1 male passenger, Zurich, Switzerland. Confirmed positive and in isolation after reporting symptoms upon arrival.
* 1 American citizen, Omaha, Nebraska. Confirmed positive and currently asymptomatic.
*1 American citizen, Atlanta, Georgia. Symptomatic and currently being monitored in a biocontainment unit.
Additionally, there are suspected cases in Madrid, Spain, and on the remote island of Tristan da Cunha. The Spanish case is considered provisionally positive and is awaiting a confirmatory test.
