NATO countries expressing support for Ukraine peacekeeping

In the extremely unlikely event that NATO approves the peacekeeping mission, would that warrant DEFCON 2?
Not necessarily. There are a lot of variables involved.

Interesting theoretical question. But NATO will never approve it. Things would have to get very bad in Ukraine before that happens.

It would not be pretty fresh nato troops would roll up some of these Russian lines. Not all right away.
But even limited western aircav and armor would bust them up pretty hard.
Then Russia would have to decide if they were going to commit more “modern” forces to the battle.
We arnt even mentioning the battle to knock Russian or nato elint aircraft down.
No point in peacekeepers trying to occupy static battle lines because the Ukrainians are not going to stop pushing on those lines.

Guess my point is don’t send them if they are going to pretend to be peacekeepers because there will be no peace to keep.

We can easily take West Ukraine and not start WWIII. If done right we can make it into a korea where one half is free and democratic and the other half puppet state dictatorship.
I’m sorry DN that’s just nuts it plays right into Russia’s strategy.
“we rescued Russian Ukraine and look at this horrible nato with its militarized boarder they put right next to Russia and oh look they still hold Kiev. The cradle of the Rus, but it’s actually the cradle of the Slavs which is much more than Russia.

If the Ukrainian people are still willing to fight then help them and let them. Wars not fought to there conclusion are just fought again later.

Pretty sure its to appease the public, their own propaganda worked to well and they have to implement some carousel effect just to show they are trying to do something. Gonna be funny to watch the backblow ( you guys think russia counts on it? and stalls for time to backblow ? Might be the Europian/west arkelis heel )

I am more concerned that the supporting nations of this move may just decide to do it anyway, with or without NATO, and that could easily get messy. NATO should prepare for this just in case, and very well may do so. I also think that NATO would have trouble with getting more involved unless something extraordinary were to happen and at that point I can only see rapid escalation (since it is quite obvious at this point that Russia could not hope to win a conventional war with NATO) and/or invasion somewhere 🤔on the other side of the world being almost certain. The battle lines for a possible WWIII scenario seem to be getting clearer by the day and the probability of such a scenario becoming reality seem to be increasing day by day in my mind, unfortunately. I do agree that this would be in truly no one's interest, but we must admit that history has a funny way of not giving a ____ about people's (and humanity's) interests at some times in history. Ex. WWI

The longer this drags on the less chance of miscalculations. The outrage and the media attention is on the curve. 2 - 3 weeks from now another story will headlines and this will be 3rd page news. Russia is set on destroying as much as it can people get desensitized. Cnn will move on. Eventually russia will get there people in place. Ukraine will be split into different factions and the west will learn to live with it and feel relieved there was no direct confrontation .

You're probably absolutely right.

Yet we’ll still be here a witness to it all.
Your correct the news cycle could drop it.
But the news org could also keep it alive.
There is nothing organic about covering news.

The west thought/hoped it would have been alot faster and cleaner. Wag the big stick as far as sanctions go but accept what was going to happen. ukraine is putting up a bigger fight then expected and russia dropping the ball has made this worse and have put the west bad position as now they have to talk tough but cant/wont do much. If this thing would have been over in a week would have been much easier for everyone

Yes and Russia has to keep sending boys to die and suffer the sanctions. All the west has to do at this point is what it’s done and keep the pressure on.
No time to vacillate just stay the course.
Even the Swiss are getting involved on the clamping down of accounts and sanctions.

I know I’m a broken record but it’s a war you either stay the course or you cut and run.

Some NATO countries are starting to support peacekeeping in Ukraine. Poland is going to formally propose it at the next NATO meeting.

Que se armen los putazos! que bueno que no le tengan miedo al cobarde de putin. Y que putin vaya achingar a su madre a ver si así deja en paz a ucrania y todos sus vecinos.

DEFCON Warning System - Translation: Let the whores arm themselves! It's good that they are not afraid of the cowardly Putin. And that Putin is going to screw his mother to see if he leaves Ukraine and all her neighbors alone.

U.S. Ambassador to U.N. appears to open the door to the U.S. accepting other NATO nations sending troops to Ukraine.

And other NATO countries may decide that they want to put troops inside of Ukraine. That will be a decision that they have to make.

Nothing to worry about. If the US won't do it, NATO won't do it.

So what would this mean? Obviously NATO intervention into Ukraine would be disastrous, but if a couple of countries decide enough is enough and acts independently would it mean NATO as a whole have to be involved? Would article 5 still apply?

And more to the point how would Russia view this?
