“Depends” are on isle three
Not necessarily. There are a lot of variables involved. In the extremely unlikely event that NATO approves the peacekeeping mission, would that warrant DEFCON 2?
We can easily take West Ukraine and not start WWIII. If done right we can make it into a korea where one half is free and democratic and the other half puppet state dictatorship.Guess my point is don’t send them if they are going to pretend to be peacekeepers because there will be no peace to keep
I’m sorry DN that’s just nuts it plays right into Russia’s strategy. We can easily take West Ukraine and not start WWIII. If done right we can make it into a korea where one half is free and democratic and the other half puppet state dictatorship.
I am more concerned that the supporting nations of this move may just decide to do it anyway, with or without NATO, and that could easily get messy. NATO should prepare for this just in case, and very well may do so. I also think that NATO would have trouble with getting more involved unless something extraordinary were to happen and at that point I can only see rapid escalation (since it is quite obvious at this point that Russia could not hope to win a conventional war with NATO) and/or invasion somewhereNot necessarily. There are a lot of variables involved.
Interesting theoretical question. But NATO will never approve it. Things would have to get very bad in Ukraine before that happens.
You're probably absolutely right. The longer this drags on the less chance of miscalculations. The outrage and the media attention is on the curve. 2 - 3 weeks from now another story will headlines and this will be 3rd page news. Russia is set on destroying as much as it can people get desensitized. Cnn will move on. Eventually russia will get there people in place. Ukraine will be split into different factions and the west will learn to live with it and feel relieved there was no direct confrontation .
Yes and Russia has to keep sending boys to die and suffer the sanctions. All the west has to do at this point is what it’s done and keep the pressure on.The west thought/hoped it would have been alot faster and cleaner. Wag the big stick as far as sanctions go but accept what was going to happen. ukraine is putting up a bigger fight then expected and russia dropping the ball has made this worse and have put the west bad position as now they have to talk tough but cant/wont do much. If this thing would have been over in a week would have been much easier for everyone

No time to vacillate just stay the course.
Even the Swiss are getting involved on the clamping down of accounts and sanctions.
I know I’m a broken record but it’s a war you either stay the course or you cut and run.
Well I know I’m beating a dead horse but well there you go Thats just me. Charging At windmillsNow that is just cheatingyou already have power poster status.

So what would this mean? Obviously NATO intervention into Ukraine would be disastrous, but if a couple of countries decide enough is enough and acts independently would it mean NATO as a whole have to be involved? Would article 5 still apply?U.S. Ambassador to U.N. appears to open the door to the U.S. accepting other NATO nations sending troops to Ukraine.
