Panama Canal placed back under US Control

@Peter Griffin

Why the down vote? I did say no one seriously thought he would invade.

So am I in the doghouse because I’m not advocating an invasion or because I should?

Very confusing.

China is consolidating its influence in Panama with strategic investments in key infrastructure, such as the fourth bridge over the Canal ($1.3 billion) and the ports of Balboa and Cristobal. In addition, its participation in sectors such as mining reinforces its presence, generating concern in Washington.

Donald Trump has pointed out that these actions by Beijing violate the neutrality agreed upon when transferring the Canal to Panama, while social tensions grow over the control of strategic resources.

Same old cold war game and sphere policy. Yes in my opinion the US should secure the Panama channel, just to be able to protect its routes, and in case China tryes to take South China sea or Taiwan, US would be able to react faster. ( US and others would maybe be in the same situation as north stream gas from Russia )

I believe it is an absolute that the US will take control of the Canal Zone (or the whole country) as soon as China get caught with soldier/marines there.

The zone would take a few months of logistical prep and 3 days of combat (90% seized in 12 hrs)

The entire country would take almost 2 weeks.

It will be a straight forward run and gun then hold. Just like last time, which frankly, as a nation, was not particularly difficult. It was very very difficult for the Seals. 😞

Axios reports that U.S. Secretary of State Marco Rubio presented the President of Panama, José Raúl Mulino with an Ultimatum while meeting yesterday, that if Panama does not take “Immediate Action” to remove Chinese Influence from the Panama Canal, “then the United States will take measures necessary to protect its rights under the Torrijos–Carter Treaties.”

The President of Panama, José Raúl Mulino has announced that following his meeting yesterday with U.S. Secretary of State Marco Rubio, Panama has decided not to renew its 2017 Memo with China, regarding their “Belt and Road Initiative” and that they will look towards voiding their Agreements with the Chinese Government prior to their End Dates set for 2027 and 2028.
