A Tsunami Watch has been issued for Christmas Island and part of the Northern Territory, Australia:
BREAKING: A tsunami watch has been issued for parts of Australia after a powerful magnitude 8.0 earthquake struck off the coast of the Philippines this morning.
JUST IN: Operations at General Santos International Airport will be temporarily suspended following the magnitude 7.8 earthquake and tsunami warning issued by Phivolcs, according to the Civil Aviation Authority of the Philippines.
Air navigation facilities, equipment, and operational capabilities will be assessed before operations resume.

The National Grid Corporation of the Philippines (NGCP) continues to assess the extent of damage from the Magnitude 7.8 earthquake that struck Southwestern Mindanao this morning, June 8.
Among the affected transmission lines are the following:

-Davao De Oro
-Davao Oriental
-Northern Maguindanao
South Maguindanao
-Sarangani
-South Cotabato
-North Cotabato
South Maguindanao
-Sarangani
-South Cotabato
-North Cotabato
Wave activity recorded at Kiamba Port in Sarangani following the tsunami warning issued by PHIVOLCS due to the strong earthquake in Mindanao, Residents are continuouslv advised to avoid coastlines and immediately evacuate to higher ground Philippines.
