Some odd things being picked up in the Western Pacific. May be nothing, may be training, or may be the beginnings of something.
This was yesterday:
Today:
Usually these ships are in the Bo Hai sea operating as car ferries. What's important is that some of these ferries have had their stern ramps modified for amphibious operations.
China is Preparing Merchant Ro-Ro Ferries for Amphibious Warfare
I put these ships into MarineTraffic and here's the most recent locations:
1. Bo Hai Jing Zhu (Departed Yantai 20 minutes ago going north, seems to be on its normal route)
2. Bo Hai Zuan Zhu (Drifting outside of Quanzhou/Hanjiang)
3. Bo Hai Fei Zhu (Drifting outside of Quanzhou/Hanjiang)
4. Bo Hai Bao Zhu (Drifting outside of Quanzhou/Hanjiang)
5. Zhong Hua Fu Xing (Inport Quanzhou/Hanjiang)
6. Bo Hai Heng Da (Loitering outside Quanzhou/Hanjiang)
Zooming out a little I noticed a few more RoRo's from the north on their way down south:
7.
YONG XING DAO (Destination set as Quanzhou)
8.
PU TUO DAO (Destination set as Xiamen)
Discounting #1, 7 RoRo's for an exercise would be a lot. The US seems to know something is up with that Rivet Joint flyover the transit path yesterday.
