Taiwan’s Air Force is running its annual “Tianlong” / “Sky Dragon” exercise this week. The exercise runs Oct 27-31 alongside the Army’s Lusheng 1 maneuver, and includes live training by ground air defense units and fighter crews across air to air, air to sea, and air to ground mission profiles.

Early phases focus on air defense crews getting live trigger time, including practicing engagements against low altitude threats and validating joint response tempo under wartime conditions.

United States President Donald Trump has said that his Chinese counterpart Xi Jinping has assured him that Beijing will not attempt to unify Taiwan with mainland China while the Republican leader is in office.

The US president claimed that Xi and those close to him had “openly said” that “‘we would never do anything while President Trump is president,’ because they know the consequences.”
