I believe Spain's airspace is sovereign, as is it's air bases. They are free to tell the US no. These are things the Trump Administration should think about before starting wars and then thinking being part of NATO gives them unlimited support.

That’s absolutely true, it’s also absolutely true how this might negatively impact Spain down the road. Just because it’s their right doesn’t mean it’s wise foreign policy decision

We don't need them, still denying the US the use of airbases that we built and turned over to Spain in the 90s doesn't sit right with me.

This will have no consequences for Spain.
There will be a blue wave in the midterm elections.
I predict impeachment proceedings during 2027.

I'm going to make a bold prediction: Trump will flee to Russia.
Trump is finished.

Spending billions on a war for another country while your own country wastes away and crumbles has consequences. I live in a very rural, conservative agricultural town and the amount of protestors I seen on Saturday protesting against the war and Trump was something I have never seen here. The Republican party has no clue what's going to hit them this fall.

The problem of Iran could be solved very quickly by getting off oil. Move to a different fuel, OPEC dies, and Iran has no funding. Neither does Russia, so solve a lot of that problem as well.

BUT please keep titles clean, professional, and strip any loaded/fighting words in tittles. I will replace them with less hostile words. FYI.

Try to keep thread tittles neat, clean, and professional for our guests and members so it's easier to read & follow. Thanks!

It’s actually interesting, the silence over Italy denying the use of Sigonella. According to some sources, that happened last Friday, but the news only just broke a few hours ago and there hasn't been a word said about it so far, I wonder why.

L'Italia ha negato agli Stati Uniti la base di Sigonella: la decisione presa da Crosetto. Il piano comunicato mentre i bombardieri erano già in volo TRANSLATION:

Italy Denies U.S. Use of Sigonella Base: The Decision by Crosetto

The flight plan was communicated while bombers were already airborne. The Defense Minister triggered the ban due to a lack of prior consultation as required by agreements.
Italy has denied the United States use of the Sigonella base. The incident occurred a few nights ago, but the news was kept confidential. It was the Chief of the Defense Staff, Luciano Portolano, who called Defense Minister Guido Crosetto to inform him of the unfolding situation and to reach a decision that inevitably impacts relations between Italy and the United States.
Portolano was informed by the Air Force Staff that the flight plan for several U.S. bombers included landing at Sigonella before departing for the Middle East. However, no authorization had been requested, nor had Italian military leadership been consulted. In fact, the plan was communicated while the aircraft were already in flight.
Initial verifications confirmed that these were not routine or logistical flights and, therefore, are not covered under the existing treaty with our country.
Minister Crosetto himself had declared in Parliament: "We commit to bringing before Parliament any operation that does not fall within the treaties and must therefore be authorized." The same Minister has consistently informed the opposition in real-time during any situation involving risk or attacks on our soldiers.
Consequently, there was no doubt regarding the course of action, given that no authorization had been sought—especially since the aircraft indicated in the flight plan carry a so-called "caveat" and cannot land unless there is an emergency.

At that point, acting on a direct mandate from the Minister, Portolano informed the U.S. Command of the decision: they cannot land at Sigonella because they were not authorized and because there was no prior consultation. Thus, the ban was enacted, taking into account the risk of a diplomatic crisis similar to the one in 1985 during the Craxi government and the presidency of Ronald Reagan.

What specifically does it say in the Budapest Memorandum about spending millions in military aid on Ukraine.

And while yes I’ve supported defense of Ukraine based largely on the Budapest Memorandum. Even to the measure of direct military intervention.

But nothing stipulates spending 100’s of millions in military aid.

Where the conversation lost me was the implied spending of treasure for the benefit of another country.

IF the prospect of what the Middle East might look like without a terrorist sponsor of Iran constantly threatening regional security is not motivation.

What good are memorandums that are not respected by the majority of its signatories.
Sadly the accord first has to be respected,
In this day i would not trust any peace treaty or accord anymore!
Thus I wish Ukraine had the forsight to have kepth their nuclear sabres.

Spending , yes, that was not a discussion as the signatories wanted to have Ukraine give up thrir nukes?

The option to step up to Putin in 2014, and since then, has now cost millions(billions) The west, including america has sent a loud and clear signal!

We are more scared of terrorist nations RUSSIA , China NKorea, and their proxies.

We demonstrated by way of spinelas sanctions we would TALK, and Apease!!

Talk has emboldened Russia and its proxies, and empowered Russia to support its proxy with bullets and weapons to now kill american servicemen and women.

Treasury benefit, 💵💵🤔 Seriously? How about arms industry, then millionares talk talk talking peace? the oil industry? the hedge funds? Russia and China, wow massive profit to support their arms industries?

American farmers buying Russian fertilizer ($1.3billion/year) They have bern force to buy Russisn product because the current leader decided to tax orher nations fertilizer 25% tarrif,,,
Of course our farmers dont mind their sons and daughter going to a foreign nation to die from the bullets paid for by american dollars?

The ukraine has loans with the USA for wespons funding, yes money has been spent,
That war could have bern put down had a timely supply had been engaged,

The war on iran was started( actually there are now too many reasons, pick on as the excuse )

No its created a wonderful and exciting
to create more spending, how fun, your tax dollars, gas station bill, food costs snd potentially scarity will come into play,

I mist say the sensible thought you suggested
“Even to the measure of direct military intervention.”

We should have fully assisted Ukraine, to level that yes may have forced the Russians hand,

The war in Iran and ukraine have made millions for some ,destroyed lives of many,
I suspect you are one of the many who made millions, I may be wrong🤔

Creating havoc in the Mid east has only worsened the world, if the the effort was to rid the world of terrorists, it now will embolden and increase the risk of terrorism, terrorism could now be weaponising refugees? Ask Poland/Hungary(syria)?
George Orwell called it a forever war,

Until our leaders stop being in bed with Russia, no positive change will happen,

I appologise for my rant, but, the world really has got DUMB!

So, the Trump Administration and apparently some here expect every day Americans, already struggling to make ends meet and feed their families, are expected to accept the "sacrifice" of skyrocketing energy prices and subsequent skyrocketing prices of goods because of a war which is absolutely being waged for the benefit of others? I'm sick of our military being used to bring "freedom" to others while this nation crumbles. If America wanted to follow the exact blueprint of the death of the Roman Empire, it's doing an excellent job. We can not afford this. The majority of Americans can not afford this. I'm tired of my tax dollars going to the defense of other nations, including Israel, while our infrastructure appears more and more every day to resemble a third world nation. Do people not understand what's at stake here? We are being priced out of our homes because of property taxes, we can barely afford food because of inflation. A quick night out with the wife and kids now costs $70 at McDonald's.

We are sacrificing every day just to survive, yet now we are being asked to sacrifice more for people 5,000 miles away. Who's troops will be on the ground in Iran? Israel's? Nope. Saudi Arabia's? Nope. Kuwait's? Nope. Qatar's? Nope. No, that responsibility goes to our kids. So not only are American tax payers on the hook for this entire charade, but now our kids get to come back in boxes because of it as well. And for what? Because after 47 years, people decided to regime change again, just like we've been doing in the middle east for the last 25 years which has done nothing but create chaos and destruction, along with creating a migrant crisis throughout the west.

The last I checked, Iran didn't close the strait before the US and Israel attacked. The last I checked, Iran didn't start lobbing missiles at gulf countries and Israel before they were attacked. If the gulf countries and Israel wanted the current Iranian regime gone, they are welcome to do it on their own. I really don't care. But my tax dollars shouldn't be paying for it. Especially at a time like now when there's a million other things that need to come before the middle east, and Israel.

absolutely being waged for the benefit of others?
Blinded by party politics... because it is absolutely not for the benefit of others entirely. Iran is without question a threat to the United States and to say otherwise is purposely a lie fabricated for narrative/party politics and I will call this out bluntly everytime.

Take any further comments here:

(Not sure why we have two threads for the same thing. Please keep all Iran related content under one roof please. People miss things otherwise. Particularly and especially me.) 🙏
