Top US general vows military support for Taiwan, warns Beijing against conflict:

While I support helping Taiwan even more than Ukraine.
To do this any major equipment supply to Taiwan should occurs before any hostilities begin. It will be different and harder to resupply Taiwan.
It also might discourage China from making any moves.

That said I don’t think they will.

DoD's Joint Chiefs Chairman General Milley cannot grasp that "veiled"( ) threats on this to PRC - only provides more credibility within the CCP regime for their own escalations and own anti-USA and anti-"USA hegemony" narratives. It continues to amaze me how much the DoD feels the need to get in front of a global microphone, as if military announcements and military press conferences will somehow get the rest of the world to view USA in a different way.
  • How much would that work if it were Russia, PRC, North Korea, Iran, ____ (fill-in-the-blank)'s military doing that?
  • But despite that, somehow we should believe this tactic will work when USA DoD does this.
  • This type of militarism actually makes internal human rights efforts for change within PRC more difficult.
The Taiwan issue is best dealt with in other ways, in business, productivity discussions. They may not have the "force" of militarist arguments, but they also don't have the escalation either. The real goal will always be simply to kick the can down the road. Anyone expecting anything more does not understand the problem. Like USSR, the PRC's greatest enemy is time. Unfortunately, time is also becoming the USA's greatest enemy as well. But defusing issues, not USA DoD "daring them" , is what buys us another day, another week, another month, another year.

Reactions: Torch
Biden and Xi seem to have arrived with a common agenda and common purpose of stabilizing relations, even as neither side gave ground on their top priorities/concerns.
So...nothing came out of the meeting.
