Taiwan Tensions | US - Japan - China - Australia

🇯🇵🛡️🤝
Japan signaled a sharper defense posture on Feb 20 (JST). Japan’s MOD said preparations are underway to ensure standoff missile capability is effective as deployment begins by the end of the fiscal year (Japan FY ends March 2026) and told US Japan coordination to better employ the capability is progressing. PM Takaichi’s Feb 20 policy speech framed the security environment as “most severe,” citing China’s coercive status quo attempts in the East and South China Seas and DPRK nuclear and missile advances, and pledged to evolve FOIP and reinforce the US alliance, including a possible US visit next month.

PRC state media messaging is pushing a Yellow Sea narrative. China’s Global Times said on Feb 20 the PLA “tracked and handled” recent US military aircraft activity near the Yellow Sea. Taiwan’s CNA, citing Yonhap and ROK military sources, reported USFK flew 10+ F-16s on Feb 18 in international airspace between the ROK and PRC ADIZs, and Chinese fighters launched with a brief standoff; neither side entered the other’s ADIZ.

NOTE:
The PLA claim is attributed to an unnamed “source” and framed for deterrence and domestic signaling. No detailed incident readout from USFK or the PLA is included in the cited reporting.

Japan’s MFA says Japan and the U.S. held an Extended Deterrence Dialogue on Feb 22, 2026, reaffirming U.S. defense commitments to Japan “using all capabilities,” including nuclear. Japan says talks covered PRC nuclear expansion, DPRK nuclear and missile programs, and Russia, plus a tabletop exercise and crisis communications and strategic messaging.

Interesting ponder about Chinas attempt on Taiwan in 2027,
What if during a full Iranian war China does a full on blockade “training “ of Taiwan,
At the same time a Russisn false flag nuke incident occurs,
How much of a disruption is all this?
It would be a great discombobulation procedure.
China has been testing for a long time,
US is tangled up,
Media is looking in the wrong direction
Russia creates distraction….

Something to think about. In a recent think tank we board gamed this scenario,
It works

Fishing fleet too, make it fair😂😂
That "fishing fleet" consists of thousands of boats in an unusual coordinated formation in the East China Sea. The use of private/commercial ships during an invasion of Taiwan is something the PLA has been working on for years now. The Chinese are the ultimate geopolitical chess players. Don't underestimate anything they do.

💯% agree, and they are learning real fast about their adversaries,,, size up before storming

China could come out on top – or at the very least vindicated – as a result of the United States’ and Israel’s war in Iran. As the world reels from skyrocketing oil prices and general energy market volatility, China is reaping the rewards of the huge energy stockpiles that it has been hoarding for years in case of just such a crisis. China’s ‘supergrid’ could not only buffer the world’s second-largest economy from energy market fallout, it could make China a major economic winner at the end of the day.
