That map is straIght up garbage. For one, its far from an geographically accurate map to begin with, for two, it COMPLETELY fails to take into account earths geography for radiation effects. Assuming my town doesnt get nuked, I live across the mountains from Seattle. The radiation will not reach me. The bigger risk is Hanford Nuclear Power Plant being nuked and the radiation being trapped in the valley. (though im upwind of it)
If you want to know where radiation will be, forget those standard cookie cutter shapes. In an all out nuclear war, you got to assume for 2 weeks, radiation will be too powerful to leave, regardless of where you are. Then, you may be able to assume if you are downwind of high mountains, you are exposed to limited radiation. While fallout simulations look neat, they dont accurately predict radiation risk.
Or just get a Geiger counter (and learn how to use it properly). They're not *that* expensive.

Btw., https://nuclearsecrecy.com/nukemap/ simulates both direct dose from the explosion itself (which is irrelevant, because if you're close enough to the hypocenter to die from radiation, you're also close enough to die from other effects), and fallout, which - while indeed a significant risk to those downwind - isn't quite as bad as what you describe.

Yes, it was a long time ago, and Esquire is hardly a scientific journal. Shared it merely out of historical interest.

Imagine a scenario where multiple countries were tricked into supplying all their reserve munitions to fight a war and then get invaded by another standing off to the side.

I went through a range of emotions while reading the title of this article. 😁

As long as the grain is dried to appropriate storage moisture content all you need is a large paved area, short sidewalls, and giant sheets of plastic rolls. It is a common excess and emergency storage method for grains.
No need to "build" silos. Could be up and running in a couple of days. My point is the grain harvest could be easily stored anywhere out of reach of Russian ballistic threat.

Well, the Polish paper I originally read this in cleverly abbreviated the title to "U.S. to build silos on Polish border". Damn, I hate clickbait. :P

It was a quick glance mistake. Thought it was Russia who got hit in that picture. I unliked it and made it a sad face. Thanks for pointing that out!
That's why it's not a good idea to give things just a quick glance. Even when I'm stoned I still try to fully read these types of things. I admit I do miss some things as well though so I know how that can go.

This is a least the third time Today this video was posted.
You're right. Sorry. I did make a small commit on mine though so that's a little different. I will scan the posts better before posting. Thanks for pointing it out. (y)
