Looks like sound military reactions on both sides.
What will be the next tactical change Russia uses and will it be successful.

Is the west already plotting this and reacting accordingly.

When will NATO respond with some form of offensive tactic that might bring this war to an end.
Or are we going to have to watch Russia grind on in Ukraine for years and eventually losing. As the US lost in Vietnam and Russia in Afghanistan.

Wars of attrition are never good for anyone in the short or long term.

Shock Russia with an overwhelming air war and missile defense system, end the blickaid in the Black Sea,
And roll armor and ground attack air into eastern Ukraine and end it.

Yeah I’m taking an aggressive policy.
Two reasons
Unnecessary death and suffering in Ukraine
Russia is going to have to be forced to withdraw and stop the war or they never will.
It is inevitable, short of Russia standing down early on with a effective defensive posture by Ukraine this was always heading there.
It is the humanitarian thing to do end the war now as soon as possible.

Do you have thought about the fact that if it were so simple, it would already be made?
You want that NATO respond and you think that in this way the war ends. You admit that you take an aggressive policy and you motivate that saying that Russia have to be forced to withdraw and stop the war. But do you undestand that in order force Russia to withdraw, you MUST do a war against Russia? Or do you think that Russia says: "ah ok... we withdraw, no problem.".
From a long time you repeat this statement and it's clear. But you should say something further about that.
For example, do you exclude that this could lead to a major war? If you exclude that, why are you so sure?
If you don't exclude that, why do you prefer a major war and why do you think that it would not be better to end the war with the recognition of Crimea and Donbass as independent and have a neutral Ukraine?

And don't respond, as usual, as I was a kind of pro-Russian propaganda spreader. In itself, I don't give a s**t if Crimea is Russia or Ukraine, or if Donbass is independent or not. For sure, I would like that the people living there would live well and in peace, in Ukraine or in Russia. For sure, I think that, by now, these people maybe could live better in Russia, but it's my opinion. The point here is different: if you think the NATO intervention could lead to a major war, why do you prefer a war, instead of a diplomatic settlement. In short words, why this situation, for you, it's so important to justify the possibility of a - likely uncontrollable, likely nuclear, likely shattering for all the world - war?

And don't say: "because if we do nothing, Russia will not end with Ukraine". Because, if you say that, you have to motivate that: we don't really know, and there are no reason to think so. On the contrary, a major war could have a far less uncontrollable outcomes.

Some people, not you of course, are too obtuse to listen to reason. These same people think that Nato entering the conflict would lead to war, but they can’t seem to grasp the simple fact that Russia has already started a war, and is responsible for thousands of deaths.

Some people don’t care at all about what happens to millions of innocent humans. These same people only care about what would happen if Russia itself was threatened by a power large enough crush their beloved motherland.

Some people are perfectly happy to kill, rape and pillage just so long as nothing happens to them. These same people, who have elevated Organize Crime to a National Level are just hoping nobody calls the cops.

Some people are simply morally bankrupt pieces human debris. These same people, sadly, only understand force.

I would prefer a diplomatic settlement and if one could be reached that both sides would accept and support then outstanding.

I don’t see it happening.
Do you?
As far as larger war, well yes of course it’s a risk. Is it more risk that current status? I believe only in the matter of eventuality of that nato will eventually become involved either way. In the end though no I do not see a wider war by default actually I don’t see that Russia will be able to expand into a wider war conventionally. And the fear a nuclear exchange as much as the next guy.

I am not being glib regarding the consequences. But I do not see the consequences any greater than they currently are.

As for the purposes and goal of some form of nato intervention it is simple. Force Russia to the negotiating table.
As it currently stands Putin will continue to send Russian soldiers to fight die and kill Ukrainians.

Demonstrating with certainty that NATO will not allow Russia to at the least continue waging war with the expectation that Ukraine will eventually completely capitulate.

Again do you see any scenario where Putin will agree to a peace deal under current circumstances that doesn’t in the end include Ukraine completely back under Russian control?
I don’t. Nor do I see Ukraine willingly submitting to this either, a d why should the be expected to.

I won’t rely on the reasoning that russia will continue this policy of attacking their neighbors if allowed to succeed in Ukraine. Even though it’s evident from statements out of Russia this is a plausible necessity for them.

It is justifiable to me because the window that the war doesn’t escalate gets smaller each day. While neither side is any closer to coming back to the negotiating table.
Furthermore I maintain it is going to take the added threat placed upon Russia to give them the motivation to seek a settlement that will last.

I’m sorry we’re here. The blame lies with Russia for taking this path, it lies with NATO for not doing there job as a useful military alliance. It lies with the US admin from last year and several of the other nato nations like Germany for not maintaining a clear and consistent policy.

That or Ukraine could or should just capitulate today and let russia have what it wants because they have shown they will not stop.
Maybe the threat of a larger war for them will be enough of an impetus to settle in a reasonable manner.

Now as for whether NATO will do this in the immediate future I doubt it.
The HIMARS system has put a road block in Russia’s latest strategy but in no way seems for dampen their willingness to see more people die.

You speak of diplomatic solution.
Do you see one on the horizon that both sides will accept and respect? If so what might it look like? A real world one that might actually happen and hold.

By being proactive and setting up a offensive course with clearly defined goals is better than NATO responding militarily to a Russian military accident where a Iskander crosses over into nato air space and we are then faced with a uncontrolled escalation of hostilities with no control or ROE for either side but retaliate in kind.
But don’t worry it won’t happen

The usual boring answer, plenty of rethoric.
Some people, not you of course, but ME, is worried about a power larger enough to crush his beloved motherland, SURE. And my beloved motherland is Italy, not Russia. You should stop to speak at me, as I am Russian: if you only argumentation is that, you are very paranoic. I know very well that a major war will be in EUROPE. And you are no one to say to me if I care or not about what happens to MILLIONS of innocent people who LIVE THERE and will DIE in a war that YOU want . So, put your useless compliments where I am thinking about: I'm sure that some people, not me of course, will like it very much. You are a warmonger.

And you are assuming by default that it will escalate to a nuclear conflagration.
That is not a given.

What might be the diplomatic solution that both sides could accept.
Not just “negotiations must happen”
Which I agree with completely. But see also only that no one is willing to set down and talk realistically to each other.

I have to ask people who think that if nuclear war is inevitable that we should just "get it over with", if death is inevitable then why dont you go run at cars in the street? could it be that this line of thinking is useless and can only lead to great suffering that could be avoided or at least delayed?

*********************************

I am seeing way too many "you" and "your" arguments being made here.

I know some of this can hit home. I will AGAIN require that you argue the position, not the person.

As much as I hate to do it, I will start deleting posts if you continue to make arguments against the person you are debating.

So no more "you're a warmonger," "you just want to see people killed," "your country is evil".

Debate the POSITION, not the PERSON.

1) I specifically said “NOT YOU”
2) I am aware you claim to be from Italy, as I read your earlier posts and saw the images of the Newspaper’s you posted several days ago.
3) I have no reason to doubt you.
4) Again I specifically said “not you”
If I was inartful I apologize. It was not about you. I was furthering your discussion with alternate views.
5) I am sorry that I caused you distress.

ok, you have just a little modified your original post. I have undestood your continue repetition of "Some people, not you of course," as an irony, so, I apogize in turn.

I understand your position. In short words, you assume that the nuclear escalation is not sure. HERE there is the very important point.
If it were simple to drive Russia out of Ukraine, it would have already been done, but then Russia would not even have intervened in Ukraine.

The most plausible way in which what you say would happen, in order to avoid a nuclear escalation, is through Poland. But in that case, Belarus would DEFINITELY enter as well and it is ready to do so. (And viceversa). Poland would need a "plausible", "acceptable" pretext to avoid a sure excalation, and this, of course, could not be "kicking Russia out of Ukraine", because this would lead to the worst scenario, namely nuclear war. The declared aim would be to defend, in a limited way, the part to the West, which is of Polish ethnicity, probably at the legitimate request of the Ukrainian government. However, if Poland, which is a member of NATO, were to put their boots on the ground under that "innocent" pretext, nothing would prevent it from gradually receive reinforcements from the rest of NATO. So what would Russia and Belarus do? It would immediately crush the initiative the hard way, to prevent the NATO presence from expanding, or not? If it does, it will be said that Russia is attacking a country that only intervened to help Ukraine in a limited way. This would be enough to justify the activation of art. 5? If the answer were "no", we would still be VERY close to it. And it would take very little to really get there. If it got there, NATO countries would go to war, but how much "formally" and how much "actually"? And to what extent could the situation escalate? We could also have a kind of stalemate in which everyone, perhaps only formally, is at war, but nobody or almost no one really does it, in the hope that at some point someone will quit, perhaps for economic reasons. As you can see it would be an ambiguous situation and this uncertainty is what you are talking about because, basing on the arguments made here, we could not say "ok, nuclear war is certain!". THIS IS the GREAT ambiguity. And it is this ambiguity that makes war truly possible! If they had known, on the eve of the First World War, what was going to happen, they would not have started it. Yet, despite the awareness of the risk, it was thought that nothing would happen, that the catastrophe was not certain, that finally all would be fine, that Russia would not mobilized, that Germany would not mobilized, that France would not mobilized, that UK would not mobilized and in the end ... that the war would be short.
There is no deterrence against human stupidity: the heavy machine gun, just like the atomic bomb, was invented to kill, but just like the atomic bomb, it was regarded as a deterrent that would have made any war impossible. It was said, just like today, that a modern war would have been too big cost and that no one would be mad enough to send hundreds of men to assault, with the certitude of the death, to be killed by just one who pulls a trigger. And this is how all the Great Powers mobilized: with the idea that such a crazy thing could would be avoided. Then for months, in fact, almost nothing happened: they stood there looking at each other through the trenches. They also celebrated Christmas together. It is not with the certainty of the massacre that wars begin, but with the doubt that it could be avoided: which is EXACTLY your position. But eventually heavy machine guns started to sing ther song.
It wasn't much different for World War II. When did the real massacre in Europe begin? After Italy entered the war, that is practically when it was thought that it was going to end in favor of the Axis. The real massacre began in 1941, practically after 2 years of war in which the losses, in general, were rather limited.
This is why I say we must be careful! A war is a reaction that cannot be controlled: it can flare up immediately, or for months the soldiers can guard themselves from the trenches and celebrate Christmas together, or for 2 years maybe everything happens with rather limited damage, but God only knows what can happen after. In 3 months we could be formally at war and think that there is not much difference compared to today. But in 6 months? In a year?
I do not take for sure that if a war breaks out now, it could flare up immediately: we could create for ourseleves the illusion that it will not be so, that everything could settle down with little damage. But it will be only an illusion: if a war begins, albeit slowly, sooner or later all hell will break loose. This concept was undestood from the Western leadership before the outbreak of the Second World War, with the so-called "Appeasement": it was recognized that Germany had some reasons and that it was better to welcome them, before unleashing immediately an another war.

What I find particularly worrying today is that, while Chamberlain and the whole West recognized Germany's reasons for the humiliation of Versailles and they were not accused to be pro-Nazi, today anyone who says that Russia HAS its reasons, he immediately becomes a "pro-Kremlin", a "Russian propaganda spreader", etc. It seems to be a really great desire to wage war around: because nobody knows what it is anymore. Because if we had the awareness that people had at that time, we would be much more cautious: this is why we had 80 years of peace, because there was the TERROR of war. And today there isn't.
And to quote Sir Edward Gray, if someone, like you, who have the power to decide, will really think to could limite a war, "the lamps will go out all over Europe and we would never see them lit again for our entire existence."
That is.

You have valid concerns there about the risk that it could escalate uncontrollably.
Part of my opinion to introduce some nato force directly into the war is to move the needle at the negotiating table.

Let’s be honest if Russia believes or suspects NATO is going to dial back the military aid. Then they do nothing they simply wait for Ukraine to runout of weapons. Although I’m not convinced that Russia doesn’t have their own rearmament issues.
So the question again returns as to how to get both parties back to the negotiating table in a way that produces a lasting settlement. As I said I believe nato committing to engage Russia in the war in some limited tactical way. For example a no fly zone or commit to ground assault missions. Or dissolving and enforcing the free flow of sea traffic in the Black Sea. These are just suggestions and all for the purpose of accelerating a return to the negotiating table.
It’s a war there are no guarantees on either side.
I just see a different way of bringing the war to an end.

Leaks are coming out from the closed meeting to beg countries to join they were handed a list with a 1000 names of past EU, US and Australian accused war criminals. They were told if that if they arrested the top 100 and sanctioned and seized all of their and their family members assets and deported them to the Hague for war-crimes prosecution they would support the west on Russia but as long as the west doesn't follow the rules they wont! George Bush, Barrack Obama and Hillary Clinton were the first 3 names
Joseph Borrell finally admits the west is losing to the global south (4/5th of the world population). What always seems weird is the spin from the west always saying the the world is against Russia but the truth is the world is against the EU and US.

RM why do you say this? While I’m not fond of the fellow do you have some evidence he’s drug addled.
Just being allowed to make the statement is an indicator in its self.

Yeah he was caught on a TV broadcast before he knew they started filming all hunched over lines of Coke on the news desk awhile back. They had not gone live yet for his sake but someone who probably is no longer with us sent the picture of it out on the net. Of course I cant find it now but I definitely seen it a month or so ago. It wasnt put out as a joke or did it look fake as they were trying to hide it off to the side but in between the two at the desk.
