With a kinetic war in Eastern Europe and the Russian strategic forces test tomorrow, I think the US military moving to Round House would be prudent. We're not the ones escalating, and we don't want Russia to be tempted by seeing us with our pants down. Things can move fast.

A scenario where Russia moves into the Donbass and then stops and says "we didn't invade Ukraine. LDNR consents to us being here" seems exceedingly plausible as at least something Russia might try in the midst of all these rapid maneuvers.
All of Joe Biden's predictions have been proven wrong so far. Tea leaves?

I don't see them as functional predictions, even though that's how they sound. I see them as either deterrence efforts based on real intelligence, deterrence efforts based on nonexistent fake intelligence, or else some other move on the part of the United States. The idea that US has an intel source 'in the room with Putin' who would be able to give such confirmation and would nonetheless potentially burn that unprecedentedly valuable source in failed invasion predictions is to me an absurd notion.
The most rational position I think is to believe neither side's government statements without independent confirmation.
