To be honest Poland isn't going to go in to Ukraine without NATO support and NATO has said it has no interest in starting WWIII.

If the crisis spills out of Ukraine into a NATO country you better bet NATO is ready.
 
So after all that bluster and demands about Ukraine should not be allowed to enter NATO, Putin just announces the support of "Independence" of territory he already all but unofficially claimed anyway. Let's face it those "Separatists" are just Spetnaz and Russian mercs.

So is that it?

Twitter really winds me up, WW3 trending and people making jokes about it, there isn’t going to be a WW3, so most of these people who make the jokes will make a joke go on about their day laugh it off and then go on with their lives when it eventually blows over (for them) but they don’t think about the people who this war is actually affecting. The peoples life’s who are getting ripped away because of greed and the thirst for power
 
My take on this is that Russia is still paranoid after operation Barbarossa and thinks NATO expansion is preparing the ground for a preemptive strike. NATO is paranoid after the failure of appeasement inn1939 and doesnt want Russia getting to powerful if conflict is inevitable. It really needs someone credible to both sides to step into the void and negotiate a meaningfull arms reduction.

You hit the nail on the head. When they start seeing families that look like them getting slaughtered, it might change their tune. This is going to be painful. Hopefully the Russians will turn the forces back around on Moscow. I heard morale was very low among their troops but this could just be US propaganda.

Nothing new same shit currently happening in other parts of world. Honestly the only reason this gets so much attention is east-west war of words. Sanctions. More blood currently spilt on African continent.

The difference is Ukraine is an established member of the EU and literally the gateway to Europe. So to compare this to Africa is flawed in the sense that Africa holds 0 strategic value for NATO, Minus countries bordering the Mediterranean, which are mostly already on good terms with NATO. If Ukraine falls Russia will share a border with multiple NATO countries. If his rhetoric of "Post-Soviet republics are not valid states" continues, that is a direct threat to NATO.

Brilliant move by Putin to frame this as an issue of two Russian heritage regions desiring independence. NOt an invasion. Simply a security action designed to prevent ethnic cleansing or oppression from Ukraine.
