Sanctions at this moment seem to be a way for western nations to act as though they are interested in taking serious measures without actually doing so.

There's another city named that in Luhansk Oblast. This is deep inside Ukrainian territory, nowhere near Donbass.
This very important.
Sanctions typically don't hurt the average person (and shouldn't). Instead it's aimed at the elite and specifically the oligarchs of Russia. The problem with that is the oligarchs park most of their money offshore (particularly the UK). So they never really feel the full affects. However, Putin still blames the US for his poor economy, and I'm sure some of the Russians believe it. When in reality, the regime is just so corrupt that it's nearly impossible for a family in Russia to be "middle class".Just like North Korean sanctions don't do anything is a fucking lie. Western sanctions hurt big time. But tyrants don't care and let their people suffer over nonsense. Instead of talking out a real diplomatic solution.
It is logical move. They want to prevent a conflict with Russia.
I figured that would be the next move. Time to bolster NATO's eastern flank!
