This is probably the source of those rumors. It mentions both Generals. Ukraine spokesperson denies the story of course.
If it were true, I'm sure the world would know about their deaths by now IMHO.
So until anything else surfaces I would say this rumor is completely false.

Saluzhny at least hopefully has numerous body doubles.
 
All Russians reserves been called on? edit I ask because I dont know if futher military reservist have been called up yesterday then the 147k annual spring conscription ( 30march ) or if its the same force.

Note that they didn't come out with that statement on their own initiative. Rather, it was Peskov's response to a question asked at a presser. To me it reads like a deflection and suggests they haven't yet decided what, if anything, to do about it.

The matter actually isn't generating as much outrage in the Russian mediazone as I would expect. Yeah, they've taken note, but there isn't much vitriol on display (yet). Most comments are along the following lines:
  • This will not help Ukraine; the missiles are old and our army can shoot them down perfectly well.
  • We will now need to push the Ukrainian army 250 km away from our borders.
  • They're lying when they say they will not use them to strike Russian cities.
Also, everyone is waiting for Solovyov to say something stupid.

Could be purposeful disinformation from them.
So, either the Russian telegram channels or the Ukrainian government is lying about the offensive having started.
From what I gather, Russian telegram channels reporting the counter-offensive has started has been a common occurrence. Why believe them now?

Unless I see solid evidence, I doubt the Ukrainian counter-offensive has started.

I'm all for Russia getting a taste of their own medicine, however it would have serious ramifications. The pressure on Putin to get results would be tremendous, I would not put the use of tactical nuclear weapons past him if Ukraine starts doing well inside mainland Russia.
 
Never gonna have NATO support apart from Crimea and the Dombass.
Especially not from the US and the UK because apart from the shit talk or idiotic red lines…that’s a real thing.
And as someone said, could easily stress Putin over the acceptable limit and force NATO into war as a retaliation against the Russian retaliation (ie…Putin bombs Warsaw).

I agree, NATO (at least privately) would not be happy about Ukraine going for mainland Russia. USA would probably push for a peace deal. UK & Poland might keep egging them on, but with US pressure to encourage a peace treaty? I don't know.
